Would you consider the audio edition of The Secret Garden to be better than the print version?
YES! Pearl Hewitt is an extraordinary artist. I am not one to reread books; once you know the ending, repeating the journey isn’t as engaging for me. However, when a classic favorite is produced on audio narrated by my favorite voice artist Pearl Hewitt, then I am very eager to repeat my experience. To HEAR the characters adds to their personality: Mary's youthful impertinence, well, let's say it...rudeness, but the softening in her manner can be "heard;" Martha the maid's soft tone--excellent Yorkshire? accent; the delightful children Dickon and Colin, each personality enhanced by Pearl's interpretation; and Mrs. Medlock...whoa, she's scary! Along with that to HEAR the emotions, to HEAR the joy, the fear, the delight...I was never able to 'read' it like that. Pearl gave me a renewed enjoyment...What about Pearl Hewitt’s performance did you like?
Pearl Hewitt definitely enriched my experience with “The Secret Garden” making it like a new journey. Her artistry brings to life the various characters through her interpretation of their British accents: young Mary sounds different from the maid's son Dikon, Mrs. Medlock's and Martha Sowerby's attitudes can actually be heard. She is extremely talented to bring those characters to life...Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes...I am very familiar with the story, but Pearl's voice was mesmerizing. The emotions and characters were all so enjoyable...I couldn't put it down!Any additional comments?
Pearl Hewitt narrates the Oxford Tearoom Mystery series by H.Y. Hanna. There are currently three books of a six-book series, and strangely...spooky even, as I read book 6 myself, I could hear Pearl in my head... It was good to say I had voices in my head. Pearl is excellent. I highly recommend listening to books she narrates.A Reenergized Classic with a "Pearl" of a Voice!
