Publisher's summary

Matrimony meets mayhem in a modern British rom-com about a young woman charged with pulling off the biggest aristocratic wedding of the year - and the misadventures that ensue.

Sophie Breeze is a brilliant bridesmaid. So brilliant, in fact, that she’s made it her full-time job.

As a professional bridesmaid, Sophie is hired by London brides to be their right-hand woman, posing as a friend but working behind the scenes to help plan the perfect wedding and ensure their big day goes off without a hitch. When she’s hired by Lady Victoria Swann - a former model and “It Girl" of 1970’s London; now the Marchioness of Meade - for the society wedding of the year, it should be a chance for Sophie to prove just how talented she is.

Of course, it’s not ideal that the bride, Lady Victoria’s daughter, Cordelia, is an absolute diva and determined to make Sophie’s life a nightmare. It’s also a bit inconvenient that Sophie finds herself drawn to Cordelia’s posh older brother, who is absolutely off limits. But when a rival society wedding is announced for the very same day, things start to get…well, complicated.

Can Sophie pull off the biggest challenge of her career - execute a high-profile gala for 450 guests in record time, win over a reluctant bride, and catch the eye of handsome Lord Swann - all while keeping her true identity a secret, and her dignity intact?

Heartwarming and hilarious, Katy Birchall's The Secret Bridesmaid celebrates the joys (and foibles) of weddings, the nuances of female friendship, and the redeeming power of love in its many unexpected forms.

A Macmillan Audio production from St. Martin's Griffin

“With a delightfully plucky heroine and laugh-out-loud hijinks, The Secret Bridesmaid gives the wedding rom-com a much-needed update: focusing on the friendships between women as much as the romance. Charming, escapist fun.” (Katharine McGee, New York Times best-selling author of American Royals)

The Secret Bridesmaid

I picked this book up because of the cover and I was in the mood for something different so when I saw British I was sold.
I loved this book, it wasn’t a romance but it was it is more chick lit and I want more from this narrator and from this author. I was sucked into the story I could visually see what the author was trying to show us.
Sophie is awesome I want her to be my friend!
She puts up with a lot but I love the way she handled herself. Having her family and good friends helped too. But I like that in the end she had to handle things on her own.

No joke I am going to find more and devour this author and this narrator!

Loved it!

Great, fun premise. Excellent characters that are multidimensional without being overdone. Loved the friendships. Enough drama to see the book through, but never eye-rolling. Loved that Sophie was confident in herself and yet still imperfect. Narrator did a great job. I listened at 1.1x.

sweet and funny with some sass

The Secret Bridesmaid introduced me to a world I have never known; a place where weddings are big business and everyone requires the best of everything. And our protagonist, Sophie Breeze, makes her living from it by posing as a bridesmaid. Brides and their families hire her to act as an old friend, but to solve every little problem behind the scenes. It is a place where bridezillas rule. She is smart, committed, patient and a great listener. She is problem solver. She is wish-granter. Her job is to make their dreams come true. Unfortunately she isn't quite as good at applying her skills to her own life.

Now she has been hired to act as the bridesmaid for a stubborn, spoiled woman named Lady Cordelia. Unfortunately the bride is not happy about it and is doing everything she can to scare Sophie away. What follows is a lot of silliness, some laugh out loud moments, a bit of romance, and a fun friendship.

This was my first encounter with Ms. Birchall, but I am certain to read more.

Witty and realistic.

Awesome story. Would definitely see it as a movie but no parts can be changed. The story is too great.

A lot of detail about nothing

It was a little hard to buy the plot. In addition, the narrator's tone was a little flat, and there were a lot of meaningless details about things that did not move the story along at all. Four hours in and I still didn't care about the main character. Couldn't finish it.
