Publisher's Summary

She made her bed. You’ll lie in it.

Rebecca only wanted to help out - to be kind. Richard seemed so alone after his wife, Nicole, died, and Rebecca wanted to make sure he knew he had someone on whom to rely.

But now, she’s in Nicole’s immaculate house. Drinking from her favourite crystal wine glass. Keeping shoes in her orderly closet. Comforting her sweet and grieving stepdaughter. It feels like Rebecca is living another woman’s life.

And as she gets to know the neighbours, Rebecca hears stories that make her wonder: Was free-spirited Nicole happy in this perfect life, or did she feel trapped? Did she feel, as Rebecca is beginning to, that something wasn’t quite right?

The story everyone’s talking about! If you loved The Girl on the Train, The Wife Between Us and The Girl Before, you’ll be totally gripped and unable to put down this twisty pause-resisting psychological thriller.

Not the best.,.

I don’t know if I’m just a genius that has lived all these years unaware of my brilliance or I’ve “read” too many psychological thrillers or maybe I just got lucky but, I figured out the plot and who-done-it, somewhere in the first third of the book.

I kept listening in the hopes that I was wrong... but I wasn’t. The “shocking twist” was disappointing for me.

“Shocking” twist aside, the over all story pace was slow and the end wasn’t terribly satisfying.

Blah

Present Day-Past Day, if they were to say this one more time, I wanted to slit my own wrist. I like psychological dramas, this is more of a lifetime movie. I would save my credit.

Obvious & Contrived

I pretty much figured this out after the first couple chapters. Not very entertaining at all

Obvious Plot and 2nd Wife

Obvious plot and the 2nd Wife's gullibility was unrealistically put on display. I wish the author would of gave her a backbone. Half of the listen involved me shaking my head.

16 chapters in and I was bored brainless

for a book that was listed as a thriller it was a mediocre romance novel if that. no discernible plot, rambling interactions between characters. bored, bored, bored. I finally shut it off at chapter 16 and wish I could get my money back for this one

Deviously suspenseful, a new British favorite!

I chose this book because of the brilliant narrative skills of Tamsin Kennard. Add to that: Sheryl Browne’s “The Second Wife” is a tangled and complexellent thriller. Zigzagging from one extreme to another, I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Kennard, as always, left me in awe with her various characters’ vocal inflections, precise tones and accents. Browne and Kennard are indeed a perfect duo and I look forward to more impressively intense offerings from these two accomplished women. May we have more please? Highly recommended. Worth a cherished credit, however, I lucked out and was able to purchase it during an awesome Audible sale for $3.79. I do so look forward to these specials, especially my preferred British audiobooks. A huge thank you to Audible, author and narrator and those involved in bringing this hidden gem to the forefront.

Huh?

I was disappointed every step of the way. Too many obvious legal issues. I kept thinking maybe the big twist was how all the loose ends would get tied up. The story could have been interesting if the author had spent a little time figuring out how quickly the law would catch up with the "bad guy" and worked around it, but it was just completely unbelievable. Liked the idea, wanted to like the book...boo. Plus, there was just no reason behind anything...
Side note, the graphic sex was unbearable, I have read hundreds of thrillers, this was totally unnecessary, it was like porn disguised as a mystery....
Wasted credit.

How to get through this book:

Listen whilst telling yourself this far fetched plot could happen in a world without Police or media.

Brilliant

I absolutely loved this book, the story is excellent, although I had just worked out what was going on just before it was revealed. The narrator is excellent, something I think is very important to an audible book. It can definitely make or break for me

If you read any book this year.. Make it this one!

This book is absolutely brilliant!! Couldn't stop listening. Although I thought I'd guessed some of the premis, I. Was happily mistaken. The narrator had an excellent array of voices and the story was superb. Not one to miss!!!

Good but...

An interesting story but the dialogue is so repetitive. Main character Richard runs his fingers through his hair every 10 seconds, each character breathes “in sharply” deeply” and has heart stropping moments, heart racing or heart pounding moments on a regular basis and no one gets hugged- they all get “circled around the waist” . It becomes tedious after a while to hear all these phrases repeated so often.
