Publisher's Summary

It takes two to make a scandal....

What kind of woman ventures into London's most notorious pleasure club? An outsider like Graciela, the Duchess of Autenberry, snubbed time and time again by society because of her Spanish roots. Ela longs to take a lover for a single wild night, and within the walls of Sodom there are gentlemen to suit every forbidden taste. If only she were not so drawn to the smoldering Lord Strickland...a dangerous man who sees beyond her mask and could ruin her reputation with a mere whisper.

Lord Strickland never permitted himself to fantasize about the sultry, off-limits lady, but then he never expected to find Ela in a place so wicked, looking for what he's more than too happy to give. She may not be to the ton's taste, but she suits him perfectly. First, however, he must convince her to trust in this dangerous desire - and in the promise of forever unleashed by one wild, scandalous night.

May-September Romance (not quite December)

Story Rating: 4.00

Audio Rating: 4.00 (not part of the overall rating)

Quick Thoughts: Part of what I love about Sophie Jordan is she writes unconventional historical romances. This is no exception to that rule. The leading lady Graciela was older than the leading guy Collin. Their romance doesn't follow a typical road either. While I wanted Graciela to have a bit more backbone, I did enjoy their romance. I am really looking forward to the third book in this series because Sophie is going to have to work some magic to make the lead guy in that one worthy of love :)

Audio Thoughts:

Carmen does an excellent job with this series and I loved her voice for Graciela (which has a bit of a Spanish background). I recommend this on audio!

A great second book to this series!

Especially after the unoriginal first installment! This was much more on track with what I’ve come to expect from Sophie Jordan. She’s been an auto by for me since Rosalie, or was it Aralia? Both were so good!

two souls who need each other

Jordan shows her uncanny ability to develop characters with deep emotions and yearnings. and yet the tale is woven in a way that is not quite predictable but a pleasure to follow to the end. Jordan binds them in their deepest needs for love and acceptance. I love this series, each book is a lush, sexy tale with an intensity to each it's own.

😍

I haven’t stayed up reading a book in a long time! I loved this older woman and younger man trope. Even so I loved Ela’s innocence in spite of her age and how she had tried so hard to fit in. Seems so unfair her friend could have all these incident free flings and then Ela tries one and she gets caught. Welp that was the story I guess! Ela had a bad first marriage and 10 years a widow she’s ready to try an affair, meets family friend Colin at a seedy brothel like place and things escalated from there but really it felt like the pages FLEW by! I couldn’t put it down! Well done!

Not my favorite

This book had potential but I never felt any real chemistry with this couple. Not any “love match” chemistry. Plenty of jump into bed fireworks but this book didn’t do it for me.

Frankly, I found the step-mother and the step-son’s best friend together rather cringe-worthy.

Sorry, just not my cup of tea. The author’s other books are much better.

Beautiful Unexpected Love

This was a beautiful story of a love finally realized. At first I was less than happy with Colin’s pushy behavior toward Ella and her fear of life. It all became clear as they faced the ton’s judgement and deepened their love. The character development was rushed in some places; perhaps that’s the way of life when someone has to break free of cultural norms to accept who they are. Love chooses you.

Like every romance

It’s good until the first smooch - then the heroines lose their damn minds and become melodramatic weak willed and love (read this as lust) crazed. And sadly don’t know the difference

Good in parts

Rather convoluted plot with heroine obsessed with the age difference between her (older) and the hero. Great love scenes though and satisfying ending
