Publisher's Summary

When single mum Joanna hears a rumour at the school gates, she never intends to pass it on. But one casual comment leads to another and now there’s no going back....

Rumour has it that a notorious child killer is living under a new identity, in their sleepy little town of Flinstead-on-Sea.

Sally McGowan was just 10 years old when she stabbed little Robbie Harris to death 48 years ago - no photos of her exist since her release as a young woman.

So who is the supposedly reformed killer who now lives among them? How dangerous can one rumour become? And how far will Joanna go to protect her loved ones from harm, when she realises what it is she’s unleashed?

Excellent book

Way better than “ Girl on the Train “ , this book is excellent from beginning to end, the story is brilliant and the narration equally as good, I wish Lesley Kara had more books available for me to listen to, I am surethis will be made into a film , so read/ listen to the the book first as the book is always better than the film..

Predictable and boring

Had high hopes for this after the reviews - but it was boring, narration was bland and the outcome - which I never try to guess as I enjoy the journey was blatantly obvious very early on.
Waste of a credit

the story never really gets going

it was ok, quite predictable and as for the final twist you will see it coming a mile off

Predicable and boring

Characters were unrealistic. I could see the "twist" if you can call it that a mile off. The author seems to have what borders on a fetish for black men and feels the need to keep inserting it when it has no bearing or relevance to the plot. Very dull, struggled to finish, never felt drawn in or involved in the story.

Bland

Not a great book. Bland, unlikable characters, strange narration, boring ending. The voice of Michael was terrible ! Alfie had a snivelling pathetic voice. It was a plot of paranoia and hysterics. People mention the great twists.....unfortunately one was really really obvious and the other I couldn't have cared less by the time the major reveal took place. I just felt glad it was nearly over. I genuinely didn't like any character. Sorry, I can't recommend this to anyone.

Not the best

I found the story’s little tedious and formulaic. Unfortunately I wasn’t impressed compared to what else is out there.

Can we ever have a book without hysterical women?

I love crime & thrillers but I can't take a crying whining screaming irrational woman in each book.
otherwise the story is fine.

Boring, predictable and a bit silly

I had high hopes of this book but actually found it to be a very tedious 7plus hours. In retrospect, I should have given up after I guessed the plot about 50 minutes in. This book moved very slowly with lots of tedious dialogue and details of small children's day to day lives. The main characters were very one dimensional and there were so many superfluous women involved in the rumor I lost track of who they were. I had no sense of Joanna or her partner (who had a very strange voice) they were very one dimensional. Really very little happens throughout the book just the repetition of the rumor among the community. Very disappointing and the end was particularly silly.

Shocking!

Shocking in a good way! I seem to follow books that are narrated by Clare, another thrilling and captivating book! Brilliant work.

Like a tacky 90’s teen thriller

I found this book slow and mundane up to the last few chapters where it was finalised. It seemed like a lot of information was introduced at the end to make it work and suddenly all the main characters magically made it to one place for the final showdown. It seemed a bit ridiculous like a story from ‘I know what you did last summer’

Un-putdownable

I had to listen to this every spare minute until the end. Even then the final sentence was a complete surprise.
Brilliant.

Not bad.

Well read with an intriguing ideas. But takes forever for anything to happen. Once you start you'll want to know the end, but it's a slow burn.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book.
Found the lead character at times to be annoying but would only be a fleeting feeling.

A gossipy easy to read book

Great characters and story line. It kept me interested throughout and there were lots of twists and turns that I didn’t predict which was nice. I’d recommend this book.
