There's a killer in the slums.
London 1884. When a thief robs Fleet Street reporter Penny Green, she finds herself caught up in a horrifying murder. Someone is terrorizing the residents of St Giles Rookery, and Scotland Yard sends Inspector James Blakely to investigate. When the serial killer claims a victim outside the slums, Victorian London is sent into panic.
Can Penny's friendship with the people of St Giles uncover the culprit? She and James must overcome their complicated relationship to work together, but each new murder threatens to derail their work for good.

Great Victorian Mystery

It does conjure up visions from Dickensian courtyards run by gangs with children and widows doing their very best to eek out a living. Neighbours that care and look out for one another isn't enough to save these residents as a serial cutthroat is seemingly killing men, women and children with no obvious connection.
The narration is good in that I can clearly depict who speaking. I do have an issue with the narrator. I will make up my mind with the next book in the series if it's too distracting for me.
I recommend both Limelight and Rookery if you enjoy Victorian mysyeries. I'm beginning the third book immediately if that tells you anything.
A decent trip around London
