The Rooftop Summit

On a rooftop in Gaza, a group of children gather around an old radio and listen to the world speak.

Through static come unfamiliar words: human rights, international law, ceasefire, the United Nations. The children take those words seriously. If the world has laws to protect people, then surely someone is coming. If countries care about children, then perhaps they are already making plans.

So the children begin making plans of their own.

With blue bottle caps, handmade passports, notebooks, maps, and endless imagination, they transform their rooftop into an international headquarters. They invent humanitarian corridors, rearrange countries according to kindness, prepare for foreign visitors, and design a future Palestine filled with schools, libraries, working swings, safe rooftops, and bedrooms where children can leave their toys on the floor because they know they will come back tomorrow.

As the radio signal weakens, their imagined world grows stronger.

Because perhaps the message has simply been delayed.

Perhaps the world is still trying to understand.

Perhaps somewhere, far away, other children are listening too.

Tender, imaginative, and quietly devastating, The Rooftop Summit is a story about childhood in the shadow of war, the language adults use to describe suffering, and the small human details that disappear when children become statistics.

Above all, it asks a haunting question:

What if children believed every promise the world made to protect them?
