Publisher's summary

Starseer, pilot, and animal lover Jelena Marchenko wants to prove to her parents that she's ready to captain her own freighter and help run the family business. When she finally talks them into getting a second ship and letting her fly it, it doesn't faze her that the craft is decades old and looks like a turtle. This is the chance she's craved for years.

But it's not long before the opportunity to rescue mistreated lab animals lures her from her parentally approved cargo run and embroils her in a battle between warring corporations. To further complicate matters, her childhood friend Thorian, prince of the now defunct Sarellian Empire, is in trouble with Alliance law and needs her help.

Torn between her duty to her family and doing what she believes is honorable, Jelena is about to learn that right and wrong are never as simple as they appear and that following your heart can get you killed.

Not quite as good

As the previous series about Jelana’s parents. I much preferred the previous orator, and the story line. Still a good book though.

Great book

I really loved the first series and it seems like a great continuation. So it is a different reader and you get really used to the voices and then Emily does a good job though at the beginning of this book it was hard because I was so used to the other voices but once you get into it you totally don’t pay attention and all of Lyndsay books are awesome and I love them all so I’m definitely buying the rest of this year

Another great Spinoff

So enjoyed this spinoff to the 'Fallen Empire' series. It's great to catch up with the characters years down the road. Can't wait for more installments of this series.

Start of another great series

The story continues 10 years later and the kids are starting their adventures and finding their own troubles as well.

fallen empire continues with the new generation

Love the fallen empire series. These three with the prince and Jelena are very enjoyable. The characters are developing into people you know and want to root for.

Love the story

I had a hard time connecting with this narrator. Especially after the last one set the stage with all of the characters and voices and their personalities. Was kind of hard to get over that but loved the continuation of the story

GOOD START. WELL PERFORMED AND WRITTEN.

Enjoyable. The young protagonist have much to learn and though with good intentions get herself and her fellow mates into trouble along the way. Fast action and sometimes quite hilarious. Prince Thorian and Eric, both her friends end up helping her with her outrageous plans and ideas. Emily Woo Zeller performed/narrated excellently and her male voices were creditable. I like the plot and I am looking forward to future books.

Love this coming of age story in space!

Great characters, especially Jelena, who is starting out in life and making mistakes and learning. The story made me laugh and also want to co.me back over and over to find out what happened next!

Mixed feelings

I really enjoy this author’s work and love that there’s a continuation of a series that I whole heartedly enjoyed in every respect. A new narrator in this portion of the series was an adjustment, but she does a great job and didn’t take long to get used to. I enjoyed the prequel story to this second portion of the series as much as the first portion of the series so purchased this to continue the story. The problem I’m having is the extreme immaturity of the main character —taking risks and such is expected … she’s her mother’s daughter — but the whining inner monologues and some of her justifications for decisions are a real stretch. I found myself wondering if the narrator had only performed the same pieces of the “script” a bit less whiney if it would have helped at all. I nearly quit the book around chapter 4 or so because it was just ruining the book. I stuck it out because I really wanted to hear the reunion with her parents and other beloved characters from the first series. I’m glad I stuck with it and will give book 2 a chance, hoping that she’s matured enough from the experiences in book 1 that there will be a significant reduction in her whining in book 2. Otherwise, the story is an interesting one, includes a great mix of action, suspense, and humor and (overall) great characters.

A great “younger” voice!

In thoroughly enjoyed this new offering from Lindsay. She did a great job with the voices of younger characters while still giving me an excellent “Lindsay” book!

It took me a bit to grow accustomed to Ms. Zeller’s narration style - she’s sometimes a bit too dramatic with her breath and tone that it was a bit off-putting. But her portrayal of Jalena, Eric and Thor were excellent.
