Publisher's summary

As the sole heir to her family’s banking empire, a lot is expected of Madison Prescott. Falling in love with her childhood friend Ana Perez was not in the cards. As Madison’s father puts it, “A gay daughter? Married to the maid’s daughter? Running my company? Over my dead body.”

By the time George Prescott dies, it’s been 15 years since Madison and Ana were ripped apart by his lies. They haven’t spoken since, but Madison has spent every minute waiting for this day to come. Unfortunately, it turns out time doesn’t heal all wounds. Why was Madison willing to give up everything in the face of her father’s threats, and why can she never tell Ana the truth about what really separated them?

Caught between a present they can’t trust and a past they can’t forget, Madison and Ana must decide if this is their second chance, or their final heartbreak.

Refreshing

I’ve always loved the combination of Elle Spencer at the keyboard and Lori Prince at the mic, so it should be no surprise how incredible this audio book was. I usually rate the books to which I listen but this one was so good I had to include an actual review. And, if it were possible, I would give this one 6 stars!

Nice

At first I wasn't into this book but then there was a twist and I just had to see how this story played out. Not bad. For me the curve ball changed this from a 4 star to a 5. It took a bit to losing for her to get it together and stop complaining, but the book still turned out ok.

A Story fit to Irritate the Calmest Person!

While I know people like Madison's father exist, it doesn't take away the disgust I felt for him or the pleasure I felt when Madison and Anna spit on his grave! This story drives home the point of the bias against LBGTQ+ people and how their families can affect their lives when coming out.
Listening to Lori Prince present this story brought it to life and it was easy to feel Anna and Madison's hate of Madison's father and his actions. About half way through the book, I was hoping Anna would understand what Madison did and why and give her a chance. I'm a romantic at heart and this one ended up pulling my heartstrings. lol
I absolutely recommend this book!

Great Story, Disappointing Narration

I listened to this book but almost wish that I had ordered the Kindle version and read it instead. I enjoyed the story very much. It was typical of many romances -- found love, lost love, angst, rediscovered love -- a formula that works for fans of this genre. Elle Spencer did not disappoint on this front. If found the main characters -- Maddie and Ana -- easy to like and I felt as though the 'reader' (or in this case listener) got to know the characters very well. The big disappointment for me was in the narration each time Ana's mother spoke, The accent adopted by the narrator for this character (who was from Mexico) was about as far from a Latina accent as one could imagine. Each time I heard her speak, I pictured someone from the Caribbean, as (to me) the accent was much closer to a Jamaican or perhaps even Haitian accent than Latina. Not the end of the world, but when listening, this is an important aspect of the story telling. I think it would have been more effective to use her normal accent than to use an accent that did not represent the character's true nationality. Lori Prince is a good narrator and this is the first time that I have had an issue with her narration. All of this aside, I would highly recommend this book and I plan to download the Kindle version to read. This is my second read by Elle Spencer and I plan to read her other books in the near future.

A Procrastinor's kryptonite

Elle Spencer's writing never fails to contain a gloriously saturated level of superb suspense, that is interwoven with the deliciousness of tortured characters. "The Road to Madison" is no exception to this rule and had been neatly framed by the vocal cords of Ms. Prince. The story hooked me front to back. Well done ladies!

I couldn’t put it down!

I just spent the night reading this Audible book. I finally stopped at 3 AM and finished it on the way to work today. I love the story but thought it was incomplete at times. It was really hard to follow going back-and-forth from the past to the present. it’s an Elle Spencer book so it has redeeming qualities. I just wanted more!

An enjoyable read

This is a great read for a lazy hot day... or for a long ride in the country. Lots of surprises in it, lots of love almost no sex scenes, but it is OK. Narration as usual Lori Prince is a jam.

5 stars is not enough!

This story had me laughing and crying throughout its entirety. The characters had depth. The story had twists and turns in every direction. I was a captivated audience from the frist to the last word read.
