Publisher's Summary

From number one New York Times best seller Cassandra Clare and award-winner Wesley Chu comes the first audiobook in a new series that follows High Warlock Magnus Bane and Alec Lightwood as they tour the world after the Mortal War. The Red Scrolls of Magic is a Shadowhunters novel.

All Magnus Bane wanted was a vacation - a lavish trip across Europe with Alec Lightwood, the shadowhunter who against all odds is finally his boyfriend. But as soon as the pair settles in Paris, an old friend arrives with news about a demon-worshiping cult called the Crimson Hand that is bent on causing chaos around the world. A cult that was apparently founded by Magnus himself. Years ago. As a joke.

Now, Magnus and Alec must race across Europe to track down the Crimson Hand and its elusive new leader before the cult can cause any more damage. As if it wasn’t bad enough that their romantic getaway has been sidetracked, demons are now dogging their every step, and it is becoming harder to tell friend from foe. As their quest for answers becomes increasingly dire, Magnus and Alec will have to trust each other more than ever - even if it means revealing the secrets they’ve both been keeping.

OMG! I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE!!!

So, to be honest, I was not sure about the audible version at first. I am rather picky about how the books are read, however, I am pleased to tell you that I enjoyed every last second. BD Wong brought Malec to life as he read and it was perfect. My only wish... was for the story to be longer! XD I could listen to this all and everyday.

The romance of shadows and light!

Through all our adventures with the shadow hunters and downworlders in Cassandra Clare’s fantasy world, the love affairs of Magnus and Alec and Helen Blackthorn and Aleen Penhallow have always intrigued me most. In this first installment of “The Eldest Curses” we explore the development of the prior and see the very beginning of the latter, all while another epic adventure unfolds and drags us deep into the underworld... and the Magnificent Bane’s carefully guarded past. Lovers of the shadowhunters’ previously told tall tales and new readers alike will find themselves caught up and whisked away. I can’t wait to see what happens next!!

A mediocre fanfiction with an unpleasant narration.

Well. It’s not like anybody is coming into Shadowhunter series for great plot, but all of the character development and growth in this book is completely useless as it does not in any way match to the already established plot lines.
Explicitly* saying Rafael was asexual (saying he was not straight and not interested in sexual relationships, not like I was hoping for anything more) AFTER it was established in the TV adaptation, AND immediately following with an aphobic joke didn’t win any points either.

The narrators regular reading voice and Alec’s voice were okay, though he sometimes lisps a bit, but all of the other character voices especially for female characters or characters with an accent range from not great to downright insulting.

Overall, an unsatisfying experience made only less bearable by the audio format.

I enjoyed the book, but was confused...

I enjoyed this book very much, but the timeline confused me. I thought Simon was no longer a vampire after the war and that Helen had already been exiled. Even with my confusion, it was still a very sweet story peppered with suspense and action.

PERFECTION!!!

Beautiful, exquisite, hilarious, suspenseful, romantic, exciting, and so much more! Finally our moment with Magnus and Alec at center stage for their own novel has come and it is just PERFECTION. Loved every moment of it and will listen over and over again. DEFINITIELY my favorite novel of the Shadowhunter series so far and there will be more! Can’t wait! Malec forever!!

This book desperately needs a new narrator.

It's a great story. However it desperately needs a new narrator. You can never be sure if it Alex or Magus speaking they sound the same. they both sou d very bland. Some of the other characters are sound nonsense. I had to stop and backtrack several times to try and understand what he was saying.

i liked this a lot more than I thought i would!

I've always been a fan of the character Magnus Bane but this book opened my eyes to Alec Lightwood who I always thought was a boring character. He came to life finally. his love of mine this was very sweet.
