The instant New York Times and USA Today best seller

From the number-one best-selling author of Too Much and Never Enough: A diagnosis of America's national trauma, and a way to heal.

The Reckoning will examine America’s national trauma, rooted in our history but dramatically exacerbated by the impact of current events and the Trump administration’s corrupt and immoral policies. Our failure to acknowledge this trauma, let alone root it out, has allowed it to metastasize. Whether it manifests itself in rising levels of rage and hatred, or hopelessness and apathy, the stress of living in a country we no longer recognize has affected all of us. America is suffering from PTSD - a new leader alone cannot fix us.

An enormous amount of healing must be done to rebuild our faith in leadership, and our hope for this nation. It starts with The Reckoning.

Focus of racism using her uncle as a mirror

The story is more a social statement than directly an attack on her uncle. She uses Donald as a backdrop to tell her story. It really wasn't what I thought it would be, but that is not a bad thing. I like the book, I just didn't get to here her bash Donald as much as I thought she would. Don't get me wrong, he's definitely cast in the role of arch villain, it just isn't all about how bad Donald is. There is a focus more on society and the decisions we must make in the next 2 or 3 years or face serious consequences.

Comprehensive and Hopeful

That this tidy little tome is only Mary Trump's 2nd book is astounding- talk about being a closet writer! Somehow, through blood and trauma, she has directed a beacon onto America's dirty, sleeping secret: inherent racism. The error of our ways, she warns, must become the road to our collective elevation. Written with uncanny prowess and edgy analysis, I wanted it to never end.

The history we were never taught

I didn't want another book about the pathology of Donald Trump. I was little apprehensive when ordering this, but it proved to be exactly what I wanted. It provided me with a history lesson sinister politics, racism and misogyny and insight into how we got to where we are and how we can't give up to fix it. it's a great read.

FANTASTIC!! A MUST READ, particularly for white America.

I only wish the book had been longer. It was really dense. Full of real thought provoking words that truly should force a recon if of who the American people are and how we got here. Until we confront and recon with our past, we will never be able to move above and beyond it. It will continue to cycle unless we look at ourselves and see reality.

Great Must Listen

Very well written. Mary is spot on when speaking about her Uncle DJT. Very interesting story about prejudice and it's harmful past.

Wow!

This book should be required reading for every white person willing to explore our own feelings about racism, white privilege, racial inequity, and the uncomfortable truth of American history. I am glad I bought the audio book. Mary Trump's narration of her own words brings this compelling story to life. I finished the book in two days and am getting ready to start listening to it a second time to make certain I've not missed a word. This book ranks right up there with books that have had strong impact on my understanding of race in America. Books like Claude Brown's "Manchild in the Promised Land", John Howard Griffith's "Black Like Me" and Richard Wright's autobiography, "Black Boy", to name a few.
