Publisher's summary

1298 A.D. - Lady Diamantha de Bocage Edlington lost her husband at the Battle of Falkirk. Grieving, she is unprepared for the visit of Sir Cortez de Bretagne, King Edward's garrison commander at Sherborne Castle. Dark and fiery from his Spanish heritage, Cortez is a knight with sultry good looks and a quick temperament. He has also come on a mission.

Cortez was the last man who saw Diamantha's husband alive and promised the dying man he would take care of his wife. He has therefore come to claim her. Horrified, Diamantha struggles to come to terms with what de Bretagne is telling her, but in her heart, resentment and hatred stir: Robert Edlington's corpse was left upon the fields of Falkirk and de Bretagne, as the last man to see him, is to blame.

Therefore, before Diamantha will become de Bretagne's wife, she makes a demand of him: return for Robert's body and bring him home for a proper burial. And so, the great Questing to find Robert Edlington's body begins...

Join Diamantha and Cortez on their great journey from the fields of Dorset to the hallowed grounds of Falkirk, a journey during which they discover great and terrible things about the world, their country, and each other. From the ashes of grief rises a phoenix of great passion, and bonds are forged between Diamantha and Cortez that can never be broken.

The Questing
By Kathryn Le Veque

The opening scene is the battle of Falkirk, July 1298 AD. King Edwards English Knights are in a battle with the Scots, lead by William Wallace. Two knights, one Scottish arrow, two men in one brotherhood with a powerful bond and code of honor. One fallen knight, one friend vowing to care for his friend's wife and daughter, to love them and be good to them, Sir Cortez de Bretagne gives his friend and fellow knight, Robert Edlington peace as Robert's eyes close. The journey of Sir Cortez begins. Three months later Sir Cortez seeks out his friend's wife, Lady Diamantha de Boeage Edlington. Cortez is truly a tall, dark, big handsome knight, who is half Spanish from his mother's side, with dark hair and dark eyes. The picture in my mind's eye is one gorgeous man. Cortez has been a widower for three years, Lady Diamantha has been widowed three months, so she is less than receptive to the fact another marriage has been arranged for her with her family's blessing. Lady Diamantha and Sir Cortez are off to a rocky start, especially since they are both use to getting their own way in all matters. All Lady Diamantha wants her late husband, Robert Edlington's body retrieved from the Scottish lands of Falkirk and brought home for a proper burial. All Sir Cortez wants is Lady Diamantha and a family. When Cortez meets three year old Sophie, he looks into the face of his fallen friend and knight Robert and Sir Cortez's heart melts. Little Sophie will steal your heart away. Her character is delightful, touching and powerful throughout the story. Lady Diamantha agrees to marry Sir Cortez on one condition and that condition begins a journey of raw, pure emotion, as well as a physical journey, a quest, across England into Scotland. This story is filled with multiple layers and dynamics of family, love and friendship, as well as one man's word of honor. I loved this book from start to finish. Author Kathryn Le Veque captivates the reader with historical detail, descriptive and beautifully written topography on a quest that has so many multiple facets to it. A quest of forgiveness, healing, learning, trusting, accepting, compromising, protecting, enlightenment and raw emotions of falling in love. An unforgettable journey, an unforgettable, spellbinding story that will take your breath away. This story has excitement and plot twists that will keep you hanging on every word. The author also provides the reader with an amazing opportunity to glimpse into generations of families stemming all the way back to Kathryn's book The Wolfe. I love how this author always brings in previous characters into a story and let's her readers know the extension of life and legacy those characters contributed and throughout their generations continue to captivate us. One of my favorite books of all time. An absolute must read. Be prepared to move Sir Cortez to the top of your book boyfriend list because you will fall in love with him and this beautifully written story.

Beautiful!

"My quest is you." What sentiment, what a journey. At first, I thought the book was going to lag but it didn't. I loved the determination of Diamantha and the strength of Cortez, what a man. I don't like spoilers, but the way their relationship develops throughout the journey helps them to see who they really married. I enjoyed the surprises and action along the way. All the books I have listened to so far has strong leading men and I love that. KLV always balances their personality with gentleness. I also enjoy the fact that families from her other books are represented in this one and I appreciate the bit of history mentioned at the end. I would listen to this book again.

I always enjoy KLV books. I hope her latest ones will be in Audible and Tim Campbell the narrator. Tim could narrate the pages of a phone book and I would listen... what a voice.

My Quest Is You!

Kathryn Le Veque is one of my favorite authors so I try to listen to one of her books every few months. All of her medieval books tie into one another nicely but because each book is self contained you never have to read them in order. Its just wonderful to hear about characters you've read before in her other books.

The Questing is a medieval romance that is touchingly sweet. The physical and emotional journey of the main characters (Diamantha and Cortez) is the driving force of this love story. Their story is endearing, sweet, and very memorable. This beautifully written book is different from her other books because it doesn't have the usual action packed adventure but rather and emotionally packed journey of love.

Narration is perfect!

If you enjoy medieval l Romances give this or any of Kathryn Le Veque's books a try. What can I say, I'm a sucker for a Knight In Shining Armor. ;-)

Unbelievable and not in a good way

Two men fighting to the death and a toddler in the room never wakes up? Even as the mother is shrieking? A 13th century knight tells his wife they're going on a 'shopping trip'? We're told the pony had grown fat during the journey but they had only started out the morning before. And since when can an aristocratic couple get married without banns?
I just can't.

Not bad

I enjoyed the historically accurate details, though it was not customary to bathe as much as done in the book.

There was some repetition of phrases like "gods bones" and others that was tiring. Some sentences were too long and I felt like too many people's feelings were described but overall the story was enjoyable. Would have liked the book to go on in a little more detail about the time after the quest, a chapter or two before the epilogue.

A decent read overall.

Touching story ..

This is a touching beautiful love story with an outstanding narrator who made the characters come to life! I however can not help that the author was a tad too morbid at times. The whole story was a search for the deceased husband body so it was sad enough and realistic enough.. it did not need the scene of the women with her children being boiled alive even if it used to happen, the extreme poverty scene is another such .. this is at the end of the day a romance and a bit of lightness given the initial theme would have been more welcome. I fell in love with young Sophie though and she was the source of lightness and fun.
