Publisher's Summary

She is omnivorous. No matter age or appearance, physical frailty or imperfection. It is not their flesh that feeds her appetites but their souls. She devours young and old, men and women. She leaves only a desiccated husk.

An unspeakable evil. An impossible gift.

Renowned magus Taita is now over 100 years old and has ascended to a new level of wisdom and understanding about his world. But he must prepare himself for the biggest threat Egypt has ever faced: the great plagues and the failure of the Nile, brought about by the fire witch Eos, an ancient force of sheer evil.

Taita must risk his soul to battle against Eos, or his homeland and everything he has ever loved will be lost forever. But there are other reasons for Taita to fight - since success could also mean rewards he could never have thought possible....

The fourth book in the epic Egyptian series.

Awful Narration

I regret buying/using a credit on the audible version of the quest.

Narrator poorly portrays the main character. In the previous books/audiobook he is confident and clever. The narrator makes the character voice sound weak and lacking the confidence that makes him THE warlock. It feels as though the narrator does not know the character at all, did not read the previous books and constantly use the same inflections on sentences.

He even says the main characters NAME completely different then all the other non audible audio books.

A great epic in a wonderful series

Since Wilbur Smith is one of my favorite authors, and his Egyptian books one of my favorite series, there should be little surprise that this epic I novel is likewise a favorite. Epic in both number of pages and geography, his descriptions of Egypt to Ethiopia are vivid and wonderful... I only wish the outcome of Aos might have been more prudish.

Wilbur Smith at his best. I lost quite a lot of sleep because I couldn't turn it off.

I’ve listened to the whole series

I have listened to the whole series. I really enjoyed the first one so bought the rest. It was all downhill from there on. Each book more sexually explicit And more violent than the last in a rather sick way. It was like the author just wanted to think up more disgusting ways to torcher, kill, rape etc. Every description in detail and extreme.
I couldn’t understand the jumps in the passage of time that never seemed to fit the story. A story that was very predictable.
I’m really disappointed. I kept hoping it would get better it didn’t.
The narration was good but how on earth could anyone breath life into this constant barrage of superlatives. Poor man must have wanted to throw up reading some of it.
I’m off to find something more beautiful to do to make me feel better. Clean the cats litter tray will do fine.

ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO READ!!

I bought this because I loved the story, I listened to the sample and I liked the narration. so what's the problem????
THE WHOLE STORY IS CONTAINED IN ONE CHAPTER!!!!.
its almost impossible to find where you left off if you forget to bookmark. Also means I cant set the sleep timer and fall asleep whilst listening, as is my night time routine.
I listen in my phone and the 26 hours are contained along a line about an inch and a half long so if I want to find, let's say . . . 1 hour and 45 minutes into the story, it is so difficult, almost impossible on my phone, I just wanted everyone to know. such a pity as I absolutely love the Egyptian Series by Wilbur.

The end of a wonderful dynasty

I absolutely adore Wilbur Smith, his adventurace gripping story telling with beautifully written vista's of Africa interspersed with description of the various animals and culture, its like being there yourself with a good friend. Unfortunately as I fell in love with the characters in the Egyptian series I was dismayed that book 4 was the end of Fem and no mention of her again or the fact that Tieta had imbued extra powers in books 5 through 6, I found this utterly confusing and such an anticlimax that I assume that I had entered an alternate universe with the story, I felt book 5 and 6 were in the wrong place and belonged somewhere prior to book 4. My dear Wilbur I sincerely hope that you will be able to rectify this issue as I'm hung on the last words of Tieta and Fem in book 4 and feel utterly lost please come find me again Tieta I miss you so much

Egypt

Starting with The River God this is a truly excellent series that I really struggle to switch off. All the books are tied together very well.
