Publisher's summary

A Wall Street Journal bestseller.

They couldn’t be more different...or more completely perfect for each other.

Claire McKenna knows about loss. The bullet wound that ended her promising professional tennis career drove her to make a quiet life for herself working with fabric samples, chatting with her book group, and spending time with her parents in her sleepy coastal Connecticut hometown. Then there was the boyfriend who dumped her to pursue her adventurous childhood friend. Now, Claire’s business has hit a financial snag, but she’s up to the challenge. After all, she can survive anything. At least she thinks so...until her teen crush, Logan, returns to town with his sister, Claire’s traitorous friend.

Photographer Logan Prescott is more playboy than homebody. But his sister’s illness teaches him that there’s more to life than chasing the next thrill. Bent on helping her win Claire’s forgiveness, he turns his charm on Claire and offers her big bucks to renovate his multimillion-dollar New York City condo.

After years of playing it safe, Claire must now take some risks. The payoff could be huge, but if it all falls apart, can her heart recover from another loss?

Critic reviews

“Beck is in fine form in this small-town romance that’s light on sensuality but thick with emotional entanglements…Beck’s depiction of trauma, loss, friendship, and family resonates deeply. A low-key small-town romance unflinching in its portrayal of the complexities of friendship and family, and the joys and sorrows they bring.” --Kirkus Reviews

Too much poor pitiful me

I like the series, I like the narrator, and overall it was a great story, but I felt like there was way too much poor pitiful me mantra. I liked Claire but at some point I was rolling my eyes at her because she couldn’t let things go. But it was all good. I’ll read the next story too. This is a refreshing author with good writing quality. I’ll keep coming back.

Not worth listening to.

Claire is so whiny and annoying listening to this book will depress you. Don't waste your time or money.

I wanted to like this novel and didn't not

Although I enjoyed the first book in this collection, this book fell flat for me. The story sprinkled in current social/political causes which seemed to be an afterthought or the political agenda of the author rather than integral to the plot and/or character development. At one point, Logan states that he always had more liberal views than his father. Shocking! How predictable. I vacillated between needing to suspend disbelief and yawning with the predictability of the characters and story.

Decent book.

The premise of the book was good and this is a decent series. I feel it could have been shortened quite a bit. It seemed to drag at times, but by far, the biggest issue I had was with the narrator. As a professional narrator, she mispronounced MANY words that she should know how to pronounce. I find it unacceptable when a professional narrator does this. And she didn’t just misspeak (although that happened several times also). These were the same mistakes on the same words over and over. They could have had her fix all of those errors when they had her re-record, except that when she re-recorded, she had a terrible cold (or allergies) and it was extremely obvious when they edited those pieces in. Sloppy editing/audio work all around, to be honest. It distracted from the book.

A tale of courage!!

After reading “The Memory of You” I was excited to learn about this next book in the series. Such a fun story with these childhood friends and a dose of reality when it comes to lost friendships! Loved how the story unfolds from the first book to this one. Can’t wait to read the third! This series is definitely keeping me engaged and wanting to know more!!

Excellent!

Jamie Beck's exploration into tragic circumstances and their consequences upon people has been a delight to listen to. Claire is a little pitiful of a character, but understandable because of the violence she had experienced and the need for her cane, Rosie.

Dara Rosenberg's voice and reading and tilting made a good book great.

It's one of those books that sometimes I go back to certain chapters to try to relive the feels I felt the first time.
