One of the most successful and beloved Victorian fairy tales... The Princess and the Goblin is the story of Princess Irene and her friend Curdie, who come face to face with the dreaded mountain goblins. This children's fantasy novel was originally published in 1872. It uses subtle layers of symbolism to tell a story of courage and honor.

Brooke Heldman was a great reader, however her voice and tone is suited for a princess bedtime story. My boys (11 and 8) had a hard time getting into the story until the goblins showed up. This version may be better suited for girls and younger children.

Great classic story!

My daughters and I loved it! My 5 year old wanted to hear more! An enjoyable listen.

Great story for children and adults. It was exciting, and we really enjoyed listening to it with our children. We have been looking for good stories after the Chronicles of Narnia, and this was perfect.

This is a great story! It is one of those rarer types in which you cannot be sure where it is all headed. My four, six and eight year olds all enjoyed it too. There is a neat question raised of how one comes to believe in things unseen. It is not preachy at all; the characters gradually uncover the truth.

I was concerned I would not enjoy the narrator's voice. But as the story went on, I found I really liked it, especially for the two main characters. The story can be enjoyed by children, but there are many lessons and ideas that adults will understand better. I highly recommend this book!
