Publisher's Summary

In New York Times best-selling author G.A. Aiken's gripping new fantasy romance series, the Blacksmith Queen must confront armies and pretenders desperate to take her new-won crown. But with the Princess Knight at her side and a centaur warrior clan at her back, she'll risk everything for victory....

Long live the queen

Gemma Smythe dedicated her life to the glory of battle. With her fellow War Monks, she worshipped the war gods, rained destruction on her enemies, and raised the dead when the fancy took her. Until her sister Keeley became the prophesied Blacksmith Queen, and Gemma broke faith with her order to journey to the Amichai Mountain and fight by Keeley's side.

The Amichai warriors are an unruly, never-to-be-tamed lot, especially their leader-in-waiting, Quinn. But when the War Monks declare support for Gemma's ruthless youngest sister, Beatrix, the immaturity of her key ally is the least of Gemma's problems. She has to get to the grand masters, dispel their grudge against her, and persuade them to fight for Keeley and justice. If her conviction can't sway them, perhaps Quinn's irritating, irreverent, clearly unhinged ferocity will win the day....

It was good.

so if you have listened to the dragon series, it's not the same narrator. this is super important towards the ene of the book because this narrator didn't pull off the characters at the end (trust me). If you want to enjoy the end and you have listened to the dragon series or just read most of the books READ this one first. Other that that the book (until the end) was a good listen. hopes this makes sense to the diehard G.A Akien dragon series fans.

Long story but loving it

I was so excited to get to the next book in this series and it didn't disappoint. The book is so engaging that the reader/listener stays with the story and character which both are well developed. The author introduced new and exciting characters to go along with the ones I loved from the first book. If you loved Aiken's Dragonkin series, then you can not help but love this one. Highly recommended and I did enjoy the narration as well.

Not nearly as good as the Blacksmith Queen

I really enjoyed The Blacksmith Queen and the world building there. This one just had too much "humor" in the form of people yelling at each other It got old really fast and I found it unpleasant, rather than humorous. I think the fact that I didn't like the main character in the book didn't help my overall enjoyment of the book. I rather doubt I'll bother with the next book in the series.

Incredible writing!!!! As always as an eternal fan i come to expect excellence and was not disappointed! No character left behind!!! The books keep getting better and I can’t wait for the next awesome release!!! The characters are consistent and ever evolving I don’t know how they do it but omg!!! The action and the humor are beautifully crafted into a plethora of awesome battles and hilarious situations. I loved this book and I will reread it over and over until the next one comes out!!!

Almost better than the first book.

I can't get into the dragon series like I do the shifters and crows but I love this spinnoff.

Getting better

This story is getting better. laugh out loud moments, which are the usual for this author. However, hopefully I'd like the narrator that usually reads for author to return. new person wasn't bad but she couldn't do the Dragons and Anwyll so .

Another great instalment to the series.

Another brilliant book from author, but found the narration not as good as the first. Whilst the first narration gave us Guy Ritchey film style narration with emphasis in all the right places, scenes and action moments that made the first story so the great, the second narration not. Although good, it wasn't great the obvious accent difference plus the scene emphasis did not come across as vivid as in the first. Often a bit whiney at times, and actually the heroine Gemma should not come across as such. Was a bit disappointed but stuck with it as author is great. Still would recommend for the story.

Love this story

A great addition to the series. Look forward to reading about Anwyl again.
Would have preferred the original narrator from the Blacksmith Queen.

Amazing continuation

This series is shaping up to be something special! I highly recommend it (first book is the Blacksmith Queen, this is the second).
We get a bit more insight into the world and how it fits in with another series of the same author and even get to meet some of my all-time favourite characters again, (I like a good cross-over) however it is not necessary to read that series to enjoy this one.
This books focus is on the continued fight for dominance in the two Queendoms and the machinations this leads to, it gives more background on the religious sects and the battle monks in particular.
There is a bit of romance and loads of hilarity and gore along the way!
OK, I am ready for book 3!

What?

I struggled to finish but I carried on. What a disappointment. I couldn't follow the plot.. was there one? I love Dragon kin books. The Blacksmith Queen was excellent. I should have stopped there. Sorry!

looking forward to the next

really enjoyed this sequel. What let it down for me was the first book was read with a Scottish accent and this was not. Still a great book!
