Gripping

Isabel Cañas is a poetic writer. This story was gripping, heart wrenching, mysterious, amazing. Not just a love story. A story of self discovery, feminine rage, and yes love.

The story is captivating—a well-balanced blend of horror, history, and cultural depth from that era. It was an absolute delight to experience. Highly recommended

Excellently woven threads of romance, horror and social/historical commentary

I liked The Haceinda, LOVED the Vampires Of El Norte, and Isabel Cañas third book didn’t disappoint either, the writing, the pacing, the supernatural elements that serve as an allegory to deeper social commentary, the rich and intriguing history.

Absolutely brilliant.

Side note: I received a free ebook copy from Solaris on Netgalley. Luckily, the US edition was already out and I chose to purchase the audiobook on Audible.

I highly recommend the audiobook in tandem; it made reading the book such a fantastic experience.

Just…..eh

Honestly not impressed in any way. It wasn’t scary. The female voiceover felt like AI. The story was somewhat confusing at times. An overall no for me.

Not bad

Overall I enjoyed it. I thought it would be scarier than it was. I like that it takes place in the past, when Spain was settling Mexico. I’m glad things worked out. I was worried for a bit.

The voice acting and story were immediately compelling and this turned into being one of my favorite books

I liked instead of one bad guy and one good guy for a leading female character to be torn between, there were two very good men, the dialoge was natural and believable, everything Cañas writes is wonderful
