Publisher's summary

It has been 16 years since the Day of Reckoning, when magic and witchcraft were outlawed throughout all of Eileanan. And though rumors say that she is dead, the Arch-Sorceress Meghan of the Beasts still lives. Traveling with her are the true heir to the throne and the red-haired warrior Iseult. Their fates are woven together in a quest to bring magic back to the land.

As Eileanan nears its darkest hour, Meghan must gather rebel forces to move upon the city of Lucescere. There, the Rìgh lies near death, and his Queen, Maya the Ensorcellor, and her babe stand to inherit his power. To end Maya’s brutal reign and bring magic out of the shadows, what was broken must be brought together: twin sisters who have never met, three parts of an enchanted key, and the winged man with the powers of the lost Lodestar.

One of my favorite series is finally on Audible!

Great performance! The narrator's voice is lovely and well-matched to the author. I've been waiting a long time for these books to be available on Audible.

Credit well spent.
Would buy again and highly recommend. 👍

Forsyth is a top of her genre worldbuilder

This series is amazing. It's also written for an audience willing to completely descend into the characters world. The author is a rare but true expert level writer. She has few peers in a massively crowded genre. That is so hard to do! Don't waste this opportunity to become totally immersed in this world. The experience is rare and amazing. And the narrarion is perfection.

loved it!

I have read the paperback version of this book more times than I can count and I have loved this series since I first discovered it. I was so excited to see it is finally coming out on audible. The narrator did a fantastic job of bringing the characters to life and speaking in a clear voice. Although the accent is heavy it is easily understood and really brings the characters different personalities to life. The voices used make it extremely easy to differentiate between each character. I highly recommend this book. If you love a story of magic and sci fi filled with great accents and a gripping story then this series is for you.

Amazing!

I cannot believe it has taken me this long to discover Kate Forsyth's books. This is second in the series and I have already purchased the remainder of the series and can not wait to binge listen! Compelling storylines filled with loved (and hated) characters- you'll cheer and laugh and cry and probably end up thinking (or speaking) in a highlander accent💜

Slow, shallow and hours too long

As much as I love the world building, concepts, and characters, this book was a long, mostly dull slog where not much happens except the introduction of more POVs and info-dump explanations of prophesied twin witches, dragons and sea Fae, and a lost prince. I can’t put my finger on the why this series failed to really hook me, except that I feel like there’s no depth. The dialogue is flat, to the point where there isn’t a single memorable quote. There’s a lot of redshirt death, and main characters get tortured (the author has a thing for medieval crushing of limbs and pyres), but I never invested enough in anyone to the point of caring. Romances are fade to black, without any chemistry. I sped up to almost 2x in order to finish, and finished the series only because I bought them all at a stacked sale. This wasn’t terrible. And, I feel like I’d love this as a TV series, with visuals and actors to bring everything to life. But, as a book, this was just okay.

Fantastic Fantasy

I love the narration of this series. I really enjoy the characters and the Celtic aspect thrown in. Finn and Thomas (with his healing hands) are my favorite characters so far.

Very Slow Second book

I enjoyed this book but was surprised at how little actually happened. The protagonist from the first book practically disappears. Lots of new characters are introduced. I really dislike how the narrator doesn't pause when she moves between different groups. I will keep listening to Book 3 but really hope this one moves a bit faster.

Perfect audiobook for a magic-lover’s commute

Part II both ends the story and sets us up for lots more. Love the complex female characters and intertwining plot. Can’t wait to read/listen to more in this world.

The narration is beautifully done. My one request would be for the sound editors to add two seconds between sections when the point of view changes as it sometimes confused me.
