Black clouds of xenophobia gather over Radvadur, the western province of the Empire.

The political climate is strained and fragile. A surge of Nymph refugees has stirred widespread hostility towards non-humans. When the investigation of a gruesome triple murder linked to the refugee camp ensues, it takes Inspector Käyru Skaer and his lover, Count Ellydhar Finn-Jánn, along an unusual path, at the end of which a precious gift awaits.

Käyru and Elly are worlds apart in social standing, but they have found common ground in the bedroom - up against the wall and the stable doors, too. The arrangement between them ought to have been temporary and of no consequence. As their circumstances change, will they find the courage to risk their hearts?

pretty good little read

the narrator did a great job at narrating this little book. My only real complaint is that since it's so short putting the glossary at the end makes the unfamiliar terms harder to understand the story. You can definitely muttle through, but you miss the finer points about the creatures and the land.

entertaining

A short story filled with emotions and heart that captivating me completely. The love between the inspector and the elitist was a sweet heart tugger that pulled me on and kept me there . The tease at the end sounds intriguing. The narrator did a great job. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this story and am giving an honest.

Amazing Story

Michael Fox is a wonderful narrator.

I was blown away by this story. There was so much world building. I didn’t feel like the story was rushed, considering it’s length.

A great short!

Kasia Bacon has a true talent of writing such a great story in such few pages. I was immediately engaged in the world and the romance. Mostly the romance, because that’s where my interests lie, but the world was still fascinating. I really hope we get to see more in this world because I definitely didn’t get enough! I had the joy of listening to this on audio, and Michael Fox is absolutely brilliant. His voice is magical and I could listen to it all day.

Liked the narrative

I liked the narrative. I admit that I got a bit lost sometimes, but that was 'cause I wasn't used to the fantasy setting yet. I also have to confess that I paid more attention to the drama between the main characters than the crime and mystery solving.

I liked the pairing, I liked the feelings expressed and I wonder is one day the truth of how the lord came to overcome his illness will be discovered.
