A thrilling pirate adventure for kids and adults
This was my first time experiencing both Eldritch Black and Scott Bennett and I thoroughly enjoyed them both. Dylan was a wonderful protagonist to follow and experience the story through. I enjoyed the pacing of the story, there was enough detail to feel involved and present without getting bogged down. And the timeline in the story was concise enough I didn't feel like large gaps were skipped for the sake of brevity. Basically the story line is light enough, and age appropriate enough, to appeal to a younger audience but engaging enough that adults will have fun with it too. While I am interested in a book 2 and future adventures of the gang, I appreciated that book 1 was a self contained adventure. Scott did a wonderful job with all the different voices, especially given the age ranges with the characters, and of course he had a perfect pirate accent! I would happily listen to books narrated by him again.

Exciting Family Friendly Adventure
I started listening to this one in the car with my kids ( 10, 12 & 14yrs old). The narration was incredible and so much fun to listen to! Bennett really brought the characters and the story to life. We all loved how quickly the story picks up and grabs your attention. It truly is a story the whole family can get into, although I would say about 3rd grade and up... it might be a bit too intense for the really little kidos. Great fantasy adventure that we highly recommend! I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Greaet start to kid's paranormal adventure series
This is the first book in the 'Wierdbey Island' series by Eldritch Black. It's a kids series with paranormal elements. This one involves cursed pirates, a giant octopus and a 12-year-old boy trying to fit into a new community. This is an adventure series about kids overcoming the odds to try to save the town unbeknownst to the ignorant adults. I've been to the series setting, Whidbey Island, WA, many times. I liked that the author was accurate with the descriptions of the island flora, fauna and geography. I was previewing this for my 7 year-old nephew. I think the series is a little advanced for him yet, but I'll hold onto it for him and share it when he's a couple of years older. J. Scott Bennett narrated the book with skill. I liked the voices that he was able to conjure up for the main characters. His pirate voice, "Arggghhhhh there Matey!" just made me chuckle. Thanks to the author and narrator for a free copy of this audio book in exchange for an honest review.

Great middle grade and up mystery adventure story
This is an entertaining story that reminded me of the Goonies. It has all the elements of a great middle grade mystery adventure story; with a secret legend, pirates, ghosts, hidden clues, treasure maps, bumbling bad guys and hero kids. The narrator of the audiobook really brought the story to life, showing the comradery between the kids and intensifying the action well. It is a well written, engaging story with great characters that kids are bound to enjoy.

Beware Of The Pirates of Penn Cove
This is a very good and exciting YA adventure novel. This story has everything a young or just young at heart reader could want. There is an interesting group of kids, dastardly villains, ghostly pirates with a spooky ship, and an octopus. What more could one want or need in a story. Oh, did I mention buried treasure and cryptic clues? It is all there in this rollicking tale. The narrator was excellent. I was given this audio book at my request for a unbiased review.

Enjoyable Family Friendly Pirate Adventure
This book is geared towards kids, but I found the story enjoyable as an adult. At 5 hours, the story goes quick and was engaging enough for me to finish the book in one sitting. The author does a great job with the pacing, and the way the author implemented the ghost pirates was original. The narration in this book was fantastic. The narrator does an especially great job with the pirates, giving them all different accents and voices. Overall, this book is a great way to spend 5 hours on a family friendly pirate adventure.
