Darkness. One that seeps into hidden crevices, enveloping all it finds with crushing power. Trapped for so long in a prison without shackles, she knew her resistance would soon fail. She sighed, running a hand over the ever-familiar shapes drawn on the cave wall. Shutting her eyes, she willed herself not to lose hope. Would salvation find its way to Shay? They must make haste or all will be lost. She turned toward the cave entrance and gazed down upon a valley painted in colors of the rising sun.

The Red King Trilogy, Book One
A great start to a trilogy that promises to bring a lot more exciting adventures. I really enjoyed this first book and look forward to the other two in this series, The writing is excellent with an exciting storyline for this unique book.
Joshua Young's narration is wonderful, the voices used are consistent throughout the book. His voice adds to the adventure with the wide variety of voices and emotions used,

It's been done before
Any additional comments?
Not exactly a new story here, pretty much a generic retread. The story is a condensed version of most modern fantasy books. Girl meets mysterious green dog, dog takes girl back in time as she is the only one who can save him and her long lost mother. Girl meets unassuming warrior. Both unwittingly save the day from mean green faeries. The narrator does a pretty good job with different accents, but his pace is too fast. There's never a pause or break between characters or changes in the story. Not an entirely unpleasant listen, but I've read and/or heard this story before.

Absolutely loved this story. It has all the excitement a fantasy story should have. I couldn't stop listening after I started, and I'd already read the printed book. If there's a young person in your life, or if you just enjoy fantasy stories, you MUST listen to the captivating voice of Joshua Young. The combined talents of this author and narrator are sure to leave you wanting more. I can't wait for the release of book two.

Great book for Kids or YA or even innocent adults
What made the experience of listening to The Phantom of Faerie Mountain the most enjoyable?
I really enjoyed how this book was interesting from the very first page. It didn't have a drag out build up of the world, just jumped right in to strange creatures and events
What did you like best about this story?
I enjoyed the fantasy fae writing and the narration
Which character – as performed by Joshua Young – was your favorite?
Joshua is a great Narrator, he did an excellent job on all of the characters and keeping them distinguishable.
Any additional comments?
I received this book for an honest review. While I usually enjoy more "adult" written books, I'm interested in all things Faerie and Sidhe, so I just had to try it. It was very well written and narrated and would be a great listen for a family or younger audience.

Well written and interesting, with humor and an imaginative story. The audio version was very helpful to me, because of some vision problems, and the various accents add the "flavor" of Scotland. To sum it all up, I just plain liked it!

A Wonderful Story
This is a wonderful book full of great characters that I adored.
A warm, funny and thrilling story which made me laugh aloud more than once. Listening to it I felt like I was burying my face in Finlay's warm green dog fur! I was genuinely sorry to get to the end of it.
Abby is a smart, brave and witty heroine but also feels completely real and normal and is easy to imagine being.
I thought the narration was also really well done and enjoyable, to this admittedly english listener the american and scottish accents sounded great, and all the characters came to life.
Although this is the first of a trilogy it is also very much a complete story but left with the promise of further adventures. For me that's perfect, I can't wait to hear more and immerse myself again in that world, but I'm also not left frustrated by either a cliff-hanger or an incomplete story. A personal peeve of mine with some other trilogy/series books.
I heartily recommend this for everyone, not just young adults. In many ways it reminds me of the best teen fantasy I read when I was teenager. Certainly the feelings it evoked reminded me somewhat of the work of the beloved Diana Wynne Jones, whilst different in writing style I think other fans of hers might enjoy this.
