Publisher's summary

For more than a year, Sebastian Costas has been trying to unravel the truth behind the murder of his ex-wife and son. Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, he's convinced that her second husband - a cop - committed both murders, then faked his own death. Now Sebastian has followed the slimmest of leads to Sacramento...and that's where he finally gets the break he needs. Jane Burke, an investigator with The Last Stand, calls him in connection with a separate crime - a crime that could lead him straight to the man he's been looking for.

Once married to a serial killer, Jane has spent the past five years rebuilding her life. And with Sebastian, she finally has a chance at happiness. But the man they're after is after them, too. For him, this has become a personal battle, one he's determined to win. Whatever it takes.

Ten for Murder - Two for love

To be fair, I only listened to half of the book. I can only bear tension and cruelty if I have two strong romantic leads to care about - and I didn't have that in this book. The (first half at least) plot is certainly strong, but the romance felt completely tacked on and unconvincing. If you're just looking for a thriller, you might enjoy it. I don't know enough about the genre to say how original it was - but I thought the villian was believable and frightening.
To sum up: Fear - yes. Romance - no.

Really?!?

I’ve enjoyed Novak books despite how high she turns up the crazy on antagonist and it’s even more difficult in audiobooks. However, this one both the writing and the reader offended.
Nice to have some racial diversity in books but seriously?!?
3 baby daddies, junkies, pimps, dirt poor, convicts & nearly uneducated slave like poor English. Opposite of impressed by this representation.

Great Read

The Perfect Murder (The Last Stand #6) was a great read by Brenda Novak. Sebastian has spent the last year trying to figure out the truth behind his ex-wife and son’s murder. Her second husband, a cop, was supposedly killed along with them. Sebastian believes that her second husband faked his death after he killed the others. He leaves his home to go across the country to follow a slim lead in Sacramento. His search leads him to The Last Stand and an investigator, Jane Burke. Jane and Sebastian work together to find the person that may link their crimes together. I really enjoyed Jane and Sebastian’s story and I can’t wait to read more by Brenda Novak.

Not the author's fault

This is the second books of Mrs. Novak's that I don't care to listen to again but that I would read more than once if I could. I have not been able to read printed books for about 2 years now because of an eye disease so I rely on the audio versions. I'm not very picky when it comes to readers but this one ruins the book for me. She makes the book loose it's suspenseful edge and puts no proper inflection into the characters interactions. I wish it could be rerecorded with a different reader.

Very good read/listen

I enjoyed this story. There were some moments when I was mad at Mary and Sebastian for not thinking clear and then Jane and Sebastian for not moving her out of her place. But the story was real good and I am glad they caught Officer Boss lol. I was also happy that Luther came around to being team Jane.

Great Book couldn't put it down.

Malcolm Turner an ex-cop thought he committed the perfect murder of his wife and his step-son. And Sebastian Costas' ex-wife was married to Malcolm whom he thought faked his own death. When Malcolm Turner kidnaps 2 girls that Jane starts looking for an Sebastian Costa is on Malcolm’s tail. The perfect ending of the book is when Wendy forgave Jane at the end it brought tears to my eyes. This kept me on the edge of my seat.

I have recently discovered Brenda Novak through the Romance Package. This is the fourth book I have listened to and look forward to more. The narration was excellent.
