Would you listen to The Payoff Principle again? Why?

I would definitely listen to The Payoff Principle again. In fact, I bought the Audible version after having read the hardcover edition. I listen to it in the car on the way to work and I can't think of a better use for that time.

This is one of those books that is so jam-packed with wisdom and usefulness, that it bears a second (or third) experience.

What other book might you compare The Payoff Principle to and why?

I can think of a couple dozen different book to which The Payoff Principle would loosely compare, but most notably books like "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" or "How to Stop Worrying and Start Living," or even "The Success Principles."

These books touch on the same area - personal betterment. However, The Payoff Principle takes it a step further in that Dr. Zimmerman explains the "how" along with the "what" and the "why."

Have you listened to any of Len Goodman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This was my first experience having listened to Len Goodman, but he did a great job!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Chapter 10 - the Affirmations. Something about this chapter really struck a chord with me. We forget sometimes that we should be speaking to ourselves in a positive light just as much as we should be speaking to others in that way.

If you only buy one book, this the only self improvement book you will need. I may give it to my adult children for Christmas. I give them at least one really good book and it is usually a book that I think is destined to be a classic. This is definitely one that is in that category.

Practical. This is a great 'how to' book.

Where does The Payoff Principle rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is one of the most practical books I've ever read on how to get what I want out of life. It's really a step-by-step guide for finding purpose, adding passion, and creating a process for getting what I want. My definition of success is different than most, and this book takes that into consideration.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Payoff Principle?

Dr. Zimmerman's story about his personal difficulties and how he overcame them.

Which scene was your favorite?

I love the picture of passion that Dr. Zimmerman paints. It's an image of fire, and how it consists of three parts, persistence, attitude, and character. A completely new perspective on passion.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

From chaos to clarity.

Could not finish the book

I couldn’t finish this book, which is rare for me. While the premise and theory seemed promising, the writing style didn’t work for me.
