Story
Hugh van Cuylenburg was a primary school teacher volunteering in northern India when he had a life-changing realisation: despite the underprivileged community the children were from, they were remarkably positive. By contrast, back in Australia Hugh knew that all too many children struggled with depression, social anxieties and mental illness. His own little sister had been ravaged by anorexia nervosa. How was it that young people he knew at home, who had food, shelter, friends and a loving family, struggled with their mental health, while these kids seemed so contented and resilient?

The Greatest Book of All Time..

Publisher's Summary
Everyone has a purpose. And, according to Oprah Winfrey, 'Your real job in life is to figure out as soon as possible what that is, who you are meant to be, and begin to honour your calling in the best way possible.' That journey starts right here.
In her audiobook, The Path Made Clear, Oprah shares what she sees as a guide for activating your deepest vision of yourself, offering the framework for creating not just a life of success, but one of significance.
The book’s 10 chapters are organized to help you recognize the important milestones along the road to self-discovery, laying out what you really need in order to achieve personal contentment, and what life’s detours are there to teach us. Oprah opens each chapter by sharing her own key lessons and the personal stories that helped set the course for her best life. She then brings together wisdom and insights from luminaries in a wide array of fields, inspiring readers to consider what they’re meant to do in the world and how to pursue it with passion and focus.
Renowned figures such as Ellen DeGeneres, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Brené Brown, Elizabeth Gilbert, Eckhart Tolle and Jay-Z share the greatest lessons from their own journeys toward a life filled with purpose.
The Path Made Clear provides a beautiful resource for achieving a life lived in service of your calling – whatever it may be.
Critic Reviews
"Fans of Oprah Winfrey’s TV show, or more recently her two podcasts, will have this title on their playlist for months. She dips in and out of interview clips with trailblazers across various industries with her characteristic warmth, wit, and candor. Winfrey draws us close in this inspiring topical guide focused on self-motivation. We feel as though we are sitting in the living room with her and Deepak Chopra or any of the dozens of guests featured in snippets scattered throughout the listening experience. At times, the transition from one conversation to another can feel slightly jumpy, but those who favor nuggets of wisdom over breadth of discussion will appreciate the ground that she covers in 20-minute sections." Extremely insightful
I found the book so uplifting. Each “ah moment” I have personally tried to hang onto over the years is consolidated into one book. What is great is that your purpose is always evolving and not shaped into one thing. Oprah shares her personal experiences in each chapter it made the book relatable. It was a good touch to have short but insightful chapters. I liked the fact that numerous teachers were featured with the key take aways. I’m am listening to it again. Thank you for guiding me to the light when darkness was everywhere. This will become my go to book for clear understanding. Love, love, love! Read this book if you want quick guidelines on huge life lessons!

Re-hashing The Secret
Like most people, I have a great deal of respect and admiration for Oprah. There is no denying her empathy, determination, and her charisma. I expected this book to be filled with actionable advice or, at the very least, some ideas that might inspire and motivate me.
Nothing could be further from the truth, though: the book is basically a compilation of metaphysical platitudes in the voices of multiple celebrities, clipped from interviews Oprah did in the past. The old clichés like "everyone has a God-given gift", "God gave us all a purpose" and, of course "put something out into the universe and the universe will reciprocate".
This is exactly the same as "The Secret" and these books have nothing to offer to someone like me.
I expected real advice from an successful and charismatic person that is greatly respected around world, instead I got 3 hours of soundbites and superstitious nonsense.

Love this, but too much god nonsense
Love Oprah. Loved her last book (WIKFS). And I really enjoyed this book. My only critique is how much god bothering there is in this book. She uses clips of interviews from people she’s interviewed for her podcast. Including people like Joel Osteen, the super rich televangelist famed for his hatred of gays and his love of cold hard cash.

not life changing but ok
Some parts of the book were more interesting than others... mainly those in the final chapter. There are quite a few references to God so if you're an atheist like me... it was a bit of a turn off. It also jumps around a lot with different people providing their views.

Big name, not much substance
I do wonder what audience this book is targeting. It is to the best “shallow”. Almost as if quickly lumbered together and there is not much of Oprah in it. Generic talks by various people. Disappointed and do not recommend.

New aha-ha moments.
I have listened to this audiobook before, but I got even more out of it this second time, and I think I would get even more in subsequent times. Oprah fulfils her role as a teacher of the worlds largest classroom so well. She engages her listeners, and by using her interactions with others and their personal experiences, she can pass on the knowledge and teach others the lessons in a way that keep her listeners engaged. I would recommend this book to anyone starting to question their journey and are wondering where to begin? An easy listen of short duration, a book that can be kept and listened to over and over again—each time with new aha-ha moments.
