Story
Some love affairs change you forever. Someone comes into your orbit and swivels you on your axis, like the wind working on a rooftop weather vane. And when they leave, as the wind always does, you are different; you have a new direction - and it's not always north. Any woman who's ever been involved with a bad, bad man and been dumped will understand what it feels like to be broken, broken-hearted, and bent on revenge.

On a beautiful summer night in a charming English suburb, a young woman and her boyfriend disappear after partying at the massive country estate of a new college friend. One year later, a writer moves into a cottage on the edge of the woods that border the same estate. Story
From the outside, Essie’s life looks idyllic: a loving husband, a beautiful house in a good neighborhood, and a nearby mother who dotes on her grandchildren. But few of Essie’s friends know her secret shame: that in a moment of maternal despair, she once walked away from her newborn, asleep in her carriage in a park. Disaster was avoided, and Essie got better, but she still fears what lurks inside her, even as her daughter gets older and she has a second baby.

Story
The white-washed Italian villa is perfect. I thought it might feel odd, living in a stranger’s house for the summer, but as my husband and children swim in the infinity pool, I start to relax. And then, in the back of a wardrobe, I find something that shatters everything.... Sparkling green eyes, square jaw, lopsided smile. A young man with his arm around a beautiful woman. The picture is old and faded, but I’d recognize him anywhere. The man is my husband.

Publisher's summary
She thinks love can kill you. It turns out she might be right. The dark and sexy new thriller from the bestselling author of The Sunday Girl and The Strangers We Know.
Harper Brown is an expert at picking locks, breaking her way out of car boots, and talking her way out of trouble, and she could run a masterclass on escaping relationships—her record for losing a guy is three minutes flat. She’s addicted to true crime podcasts and is the genius behind a micro-column called "How to Not Get Murdered".
After having her heart broken helping her ex follow his dreams, Harper has moved to Paris to fulfill hers. She’s talked her way into a job as an arts journalist, a stepping stone to her dream role as an investigative journalist. All she has to do is whatever it takes to get there. But then one night she meets the artist Noah X, and everything she thinks she knows is turned upside down.
Soon Harper finds herself entangled in a web of lies, hot on the trail of a murderer and the scoop of a lifetime. This is the story that could make her career—if the killer doesn’t catch her first.
Critic reviews
"A book that both utilises and critiques the trope of the murdered woman in the crime genre. . . . this was a thought provoking and difficult to put down novel that I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to a friend." The AU Review
"The tension and pace escalate . . . and all the red-herrings and breadcrumbs subtly dropped along the journey coalesce, delivering a gripping conclusion. An entertaining tale of mystery and suspense." Booklover
"A fast-paced and heart-stopping ride, packed with plenty of twists and turns that will keep you on your toes right to the end. Gripping, suspenseful and seriously addictive, The Paris Affair is yet another tantalising page-turner from the wonderful Pip Drysdale." Better Reading

Boring
I really hate to give a bad review but I really didn't enjoy this. I tried very hard; I listened all the way through! It is not a thriller. perhaps a drama. A very slow one with little pay off. Disappointed.

Warning! You won't be able to stop listening!
Absolutely loved this third book from Pip Drysdale. "The Paris Affair" is my favourite to date. Totally entertained by the intelligent, quirky and brutally honest Harper Brown. And wow! The narration by the author was perfect. No-one could do Harper greater justice. One of those books that you have to keep reading but that you also don't want to finish too soon. Decided to pace myself to make it last longer but seriously couldn't wait to get into the car so I could keep listening. Such a great plot interwoven with creativity, art, culture, passion, love, loss, desperation, fear, crime, manipulation, humour and some messed up psychology. Don't miss it!

Entertaining with all elements - 5 stars
Interesting and likeable main character. I enjoyed all elements- the loyal friend, competitive and unpleasant workplace, how the previous relationship had skewed main characters thinking, the main plot of who done it had twists and surprises. The “X” factor was also satisfying. Narrator/ author was fantastic.
