Publisher's Summary

On a normal day, in a normal house, on a normal street, wife and mother Fran has had enough. She packs a case, leaves a note for her bullying husband, Pete, and one for her beloved 21-year-old son, Harry, and heads to the airport - and freedom.

In another house, on another street, Helena is desperately baiting her husband, Jack, into a fight. These days it feels like the only way to get Jack to take notice of her. Passionate, volatile, increasingly fragile, Helena is fast running out of hope.

What Helena and Fran don’t know is that soon their lives are going to collide in ways neither expect nor understand. And if Fran and Helena are going to change their own futures, then first they will have to change each other’s.

Amanda Brookfield is back with a triumphant, crackling story about love, marriage, lies and fate and how our destinies can be changed by the smallest decisions. Perfect for fans of Sheila O'Flanagan, Jane Fallon and Jane Green.

A good tale but a bit slow

I bought this because the story sounded good and Marvelous Phillida Nash was one of the two readers/performers. She was great, the other narrator had an annoying accent, to my ears anyway. The moral of the story certainly suggests that enduring abuse in marriage for years until the man/woman of your dreams appears to run off with is a sad fact of the human condition.

The Other Woman

I am sorry but can only agree that the second narrator’s voice just did not suit the character! She was obviously older and it was very distracting to listen to.

The storyline was good and engaging.

Dreadful choice of narrator for Helena - totally ruined an otherwise credible story

Story was ok but is essentially a tale of domestic abuse which is not quite how it’s described which sadly somewhat trivialises the issue
It was dragged out into several more hours than warranted and felt repetitive
What totally ruined it tho was the choice of narrator for the character Helena - made her sound like an inebriated elderly woman instead of the functioning alcoholic woman in her 30’s that she was
Wouldn’t rush to listen to more by author Altho I listened to this one because I enjoyed a previous one by her
Shame as I had high expectations - narrators are everything

The Other Woman

An average story, struggled to keep my attention! Ruined by the the Narrator of the second woman being/sounding like a mature woman? 70's with a plum in her mouth and a lisp.. Supposedly portaying a young woman in her 30s/40's..It all got very confusing because of this aged voice!

A good listen for dog walks/driving.

Well written and enjoyable marred only by the voice of the second narrator, for me she sounded too old to be Helena.
