Publisher's Summary

Along with Wit, Charm, Health, and Courage, Princess Amy of Phantasmorania receives a special fairy christening gift: Ordinariness. Unlike her six beautiful sisters, she has brown hair and freckles, and would rather have adventures than play the harp, embroider tapestries . . . or become a Queen. When her royal parents try to marry her off, Amy runs away and, because she's so ordinary, easily becomes the 14th assistant kitchen maid at a neighboring palace. And there…much to everyone's surprise…she meets a prince just as ordinary (and special) as she is!

Blair likes it

Any additional comments?

My 8 year old listened to this book - it seemed to be riveting for her. She didn't want to put it down and listened to it constantly, through dinner, on our walk, riding in the car, and even lying in bed before lights out. Only books like The Secret Garden, A Wind in the Door, and Anne of Green Gables have elicited a similar listening intensity for her. My daughter is eagerly awaiting the next children's book from M.M. Kaye. Narration is vital for children's audiobook versions and from listening to this preview I immediately appreciated Simone Tetrault's lyrical voice and pleasant reading pace.

Old favorite

I read this story when I first started reading chapter books, it was a perfect fairy story. Thought of it recently and the voice actor sounds just like the narrator did in my head. And it’s still a perfectly wonderful happy story!

OMG, the theme song

First, I have always loved this story from my first read as a girl. Second, shame on the narrator, director, and producer for not researching (i.e. typing a search in google) the melody of the THEME SONG of the book. What the ---- improvised -------- did I just hear?

Amethyst

I fell in love with this book the summer of my sophomore high school year when they played it at a summer camp before bed each night. I knew then my firstborn daughter would be named Amethyst/Amy. When I found out I was pregnant this past spring, my partner said he wasn't a fan of the name. I begged him to please listen to the book with me before he vetoed the name. After listening to it over the course of several weeks with me, he too fell in love with the princess's name. Our daughter Amethyst (Amy) Joy was born two months ago today and EVERYONE complements us on her name.
I knew my daughter's name would be Amethyst 22 years before she was born because she told me through this book. 💜

This is my all time Favorite Princess story ❤️

I had this book as a book on tape as a child and absolutely Love it! When I saw it on Audible I couldn't resist. I have two daughters that I wanted to introduce to Princess Amy. The Ordinary Princess is a wonderful story. It doesn't really follow the traditional fairy tale story line, but that is what I love best about it! The woman who narrated did a great job! I keep this book downloaded on my phone so I can listen to it anytime. My daughter's love it too!

One of My Favs!

This story has been one of my favorites since I was a kid. I loved it sooo much that it was the 1st audible title I ever purchased (for a road trip for my daughter) . . .

Just as great as when I was a kid!

I just love that it she's a princess who is approachable. she struggles to find her place, and when it comes to it does what she needs to. wonderful love story that I will read to my own kids someday.

A very sweet story

A heart warming short story. Enough to keep the kids quiet on a long road trip.

Beautiful

I love this story. It is a beautiful telling of what would happen if a princess was an ordinary girl. I liked listening to the story but the hard copy version has illustrations that really make the book.
