Especially Wonderful!!!
I have been waiting a long time for this book and I saved it for a time that I could listen and savor it. And yes, it was WORTH THE WAIT. I adored the Captain’s character and the narrator did a FANTASTIC job of his voice. I could listen to her voices all day long. Abby was such a lovable heroine, rose-glasses and all. The narrator was outstanding—I will have to find more of her stuff. And the author, Ms Griep, is my FAVORITE. Everything from her pen is my new very favorite book. She writes beautifully— the scenes she describes of the English countryside and the wayside inns allow my mind to travel through time and place. The speech she writes is authentic and will have you swooning in parts. Modern English is so bare and boring after you listen to the language from long ago. This book was especially full of authentic details and well-written prose. The Noble Guardian is an absolutely, especially wonderful audio book!

Captain Samuel Thatcher!
Captain Samuel Thatcher is the best!!! I truly fell in love with the people in this story. They do not feel fictional, though I know they are. This book is more than a 5 star read/listen! This is one of my favorite books of the year! My heart hurt for Abigail. Unloved by her father and mistreated by her step-mother, she still has hope. Hope for a better life with her betrothed Sir Jonathan. She only met him once but he asked for her hand and her father gladly gave it. She has an inner strength I'm not sure she was aware of, and she is very persistent. Captain Thatcher is longing to retire from Bow Street, buy some property and live a simpler life. He only needs a bit more money. My goodness, the man is the most swoon-worthy hero. Strong, rugged, handsome (despite his scars), loyal, caring, gentle, and always does the right thing. I love the way he says "thunder and turf" when he is upset. He is after one of the worst men around, Shankhart Robbins, an evil demon. Shankhart is after Thatcher too, for reasons I can't say without spoilers. When Captain Thatcher meets Miss Gilbert, well let me just say he's met his match. She is stubborn about doing things her way and she convinces him to help her. The adventure begins! The journey is fraught with danger and a few unexpected moments of light-heartedness. But it is a journey well worth taking. I highly recommend this book! I am so glad Michelle Griep wrote Thatcher's story.

Not A Romance
I was 2/3 of the way through the unfortunate situation of Miss Addy and gave up. I wasn't involved enough to see if tall, dark and handsome would have something more than platonic friendship feelings, but this is a Christian novel. No wicked or lusty words here. Got my credit back.

FRUSTRATING BACK AND FORTH!
i had a very difficult time getting through this book. IF this was a "Christian" book, it was one of the worst ones to which I've listened! These were definitely "glass half empty" people! Instead of always trusting God to lead them in the right way, the two protagonists were such fearful and untrusting people. Every new turn in their lives they first faced with fear - and then they MIGHT pray to God if they remembered! The author wrote Samuel out of character in the last part of the book. Here he is a Bow Street Runner who has leaned to "read" people's faces, and yet towards the end of the book he cannot even read Abby's countenance. He turns into a stupid jelly fish! I thought he was especially out of character when he lets Abby's bethrothed tell him that Abby wants him to leave! Come on! If he was such a good judge of character, as they make him out to be in the beginning of the book, why would he believe the man??? This book started out with a good premise but got too convoluted as the book went on. I wanted to shake some sense into both protagonists when I had to listen to what the author put forward as their "thoughts" or "musings" --- they were both so stupid! If they had spent so much time on the road together- enough time to let them feel comfortable together and to get to know each other, then why do they automatically think the worst of each other every time they face a problem??? I get so irritated when author's use the ploy of having their characters constantly question themselves in their thoughts - it's such a ridiculous ploy that SO MANY authors use. They all jump on the bandwagon! This wasn't a very original book. The narration was pretty bad - for some reason I did not like Beverley A. Crick's way of talking - it was grating. I won't be reading anymore of Michelle Griep's books!
