It’s not what you think...Hell is bone-chilling. Gabe is a good guy making the best of eternity in a place not known for its hospitality — until he is recruited by Judas Iscariot (yes, that Judas) to join a sect of double agents dedicated to sabotaging the mayhem being released on Earth.

Armed with a skill set of irritating quips and zero knowledge of the modern world, Gabe must figure out how to work with his beautiful, tough-as-nails partner without botching the mission or revealing his true identity.

If this unlikely hero can’t figure it out before disaster strikes, facing the wrath of Hell will be the least of his worries …

If you like snarky characters and dark humor, then you’ll love The Nine, the first book in the action-packed, supernatural Judas Files urban fantasy series. (Think Dresden Files against the backdrop of Hell). Final book in series due out in Spring 2022.

Book 2, New Dominion, Book 3, Artful Evil and Book 4, War Origin are now available.

World building

C.G. Harris's iteration of hell and it inhabitants was excellent. I like how it plays off of The Divine Comedy.
The narrator was able to capture all the moments and nuances expertise. It's an excellent story. Highly recommend.

I skipped class to finish it

An intriguing (under)world. The Nine is a complex place full of treachery and danger. probably the most relatable protagonist I have encountered. It's as if Gabe was tailor made for Macleod's narrative style. This is NOT a Dresden clone, Harris stands alone with this gripping, hilarious and all too human story. The stage is set and I simply cannot wait for the next book in The Judas Files.

Sandman Slim crossed with Ryan Reynolds

I had just finished the Sandman Slim series and Audible suggested this. The premise sounded interesting and Macleod Andrews is my favorite narrator/performer. This book was so much fun! I’m definitely going to listen to the whole series. It kept me interested, had lots of action without gore, comedy, a little flirtation, and just enough mystery to keep me hooked without giving it all away or leaving me baffled. Two enthusiastic thumbs up!

Fun, Fast, Adventurous Read!

This was a nice escape with plenty of sarcastic humor, an interesting take on hell, and surprising levels of compassion for the context. The audio performance was excellent, too!

Great book!

I found myself listening to this rather than watching TV. I've already downloaded New Dominion. I can't wait to hear what happens next. MacLeod Andrews brought these fantastic characters to life, and I could nearly smell the durian fruit as he reacted to it. Great writing, great imagery, great performance!

Good action and adventure

Really enjoyed the first book in this new series. Constant action, which keeps your attention. The author does a good job in character development, making us want to know more about their life before they died. I look forward to the next book in the series, and learning more about the world they live in. The narrator did a good job bringing these characters to life too.

First of many, I hope!

This is the first in what I hope is a lengthy series about Hell resident Gabe and his adventures as an operative for the Judas Agency. With many clever twists and reimagining of apocalyptic characters and imagery, The Nine holds you attention from the first page with its wise-cracking main hero and cast of "colorful" characters. Rather than depressing or scary, as you might expect a book about Hell and the eternally damned to be, I laughed out loud during many of the passages. The book is a perfect blend of gritty thriller, heartwarming hidden hero, and dry humor. The narrator Andrews does an amazing job of bringing the characters and story to life. Highly recommended!
