Aquilan, the Sun King, in turn finds himself captivated by the supposedly human young man, and determines to uncover the truth behind Declan’s powers, even if that truth makes Declan his enemy.
In turn, Finley desperately wants to be the first ever human to gain magical abilities. He finds an unlikely ally in this quest in the Sun King’s rakish best friend Lord Rhalyf. But is Rhalyf’s help born out of kindness for an underdog or because he has reasons of his own to stay close to Finley?
Whatever the answers, Declan, Finley, Aquilan and Rhalyf are running out of time to learn the truth, because in the dark the Leviathan wait…
NOTE: This is a long serial that is divided into book-length segments. Every single one ends in a cliffhanger. We anticipate there being 9 volumes. This series will not be in KU, because it is on the Raythe Reign serial website.

Great Start to a series
X. Aratare has started a really ambitious story with this series. Epic fantasy in a world where humans are struggling to find their footing, complete with a great cast of characters, intricate lore, and hidden agendas. My one critique is that I don't think 15 chapters really shows how good this story is. There are about 90 on her website and I think the scale of this particular story would require that she and HGR put out larger volumes so that readers can really appreciate just how epic this story is becoming.

it's ok
I've read several of X Aratare's books and I have to say I am not impressed. The story lacked a lot and yet seemed to be pushing too much at the same time. The story definitely needs a lot of work.
