Publisher's summary

All towns have secrets. But none like Netherwell Bay....

"Sis, I’m in trouble. Real trouble. And I need help."

After receiving a worrying message from her estranged brother, Beth Davis sets out to find and help him, ending up in the strange, coastal town of Netherwell Bay.

There, she begins to witness terrifying and unexplainable things, and reports of ritualistic murders have the town panicked.

A sinister cult soon makes its presence known, and the dark history of Netherwell Bay is unveiled. Beth then finds herself in a race against time to stop a doorway to Hell from opening...permanently.

The Netherwell Horror is a Lovecraftian mystery that quickly descends into madness, sickening violence, and chaos. Fans of Silent Hill will love this nightmarish tale, but those of a squeamish disposition need not apply....

Wonderfully gory heartbreaking mess

So first off, the story involves a dog but it survives till the end so Lee gets bonus points for that. Secondly, if you follow his other stories this GREATLY expands his universe and leaves me wanting so, so, SOOOO much more!! This is not a happy book, but that’s what you should expect from Mr Mountford by now. I call his books “GOT but for horror” because NO ONE is safe. My only issue is it’s a slow start, but ends with a bang

very scary! not sure about the narrator

a good bit of gory fun with cosmic horror. I loved the monsters and I thought the ending was pretty great! I wish characters like Beth and Josh and Jim had been more fleshed out but over all very good. my one snag was the narrator. I actually like him most of the time, but I'm not sure he was a good fit for this book, the weird breathy voice he gave for the women characters was very distracting, i kept wanting him to just speak normally, I can infer the characters are women without a breathy marilyn monroe impression.

HOWEVER when he was doing scary male voices he was great. so overall an A with some snags.

Interesting Premise

This is a moody, seaside lead horror story. The characters are likeable and the story unique enough to earn kudos.

It ends clearly open for a sequel

Did I freaking love it? No. But did I enjoy it as break from what I have been reading? Absolutely!

Small Town Mystery

Been a huge fan of Lee Mountford’s horror stories and up until this book, I have loved them all. There wasn’t anything wrong with this story, I just didn’t find it up to the same level of his others. I felt like the book was more of a mystery thriller that had some horror elements to it. I didn’t dislike the story and this isn’t a negative review, I think this just wasn’t as scary as most of his other books.

I enjoyed the mystery of Beth looking for her brother in the small town. Beth’s character was great and I really liked her as a person. She was well developed and personable enough that I became attached to her quite quickly. The setting was quite enjoyable and I really liked to hear about the different inhabitants. Beth researching into the disappearance of her brother and the secrets of the town seemed to really take over the story. I enjoyed those aspects, but they didn’t really leave me on the edge of my seat as I am used to with Mountford stories. It wasn’t until the end that the horror really picked up and once it did it was hard and heavy.

As he does with all of his narration, Hannibal Hills continues to bring the story to life. I love his character voices, especially the demon, and the emotion he puts into the characters. If you want to be taken for a ride on a suspenseful thriller, look no further.

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.
