Publisher's Summary

The Narrows: A Harry Bosch Novel, Book 10: Booktrack Edition adds an immersive musical soundtrack to your audiobook listening experience!*

Booktrack editions are essentially a new genre of digital storytelling entertainment.  Music and ambient audio are added to complement and enhance the audiobook experience. It is a synchronized movie-style soundtrack that complements the narration of existing audiobooks; the tempo and rhythm of the score harmonize with action, dialogue and the characters' emotional arcs.

FBI agent Rachel Walling finally gets the call she's dreaded for years, the one that tells her the Poet has surfaced. She has never forgotten the serial killer who wove lines of poetry in his hideous crimes - and apparently he has not forgotten her.

Former LAPD detective Harry Bosch gets a call, too - from the widow of an old friend. Her husband's death seems natural, but his ties to the hunt for the Poet make Bosch dig deep. Arriving at a derelict spot in the California desert where the feds are unearthing bodies, Bosch joins forces with Rachel. Now the two are at odds with the FBI...and squarely in the path of the Poet, who will lead them on a wicked ride out of the heat, through the narrows of evil, and into a darkness all his own...

*Booktrack is an immersive format that pairs traditional audiobook narration to complementary music. The tempo and rhythm of the score are in perfect harmony with the action and characters throughout the audiobook. Gently playing in the background, the music never overpowers or distracts from the narration, so listeners can enjoy every minute. When you purchase this Booktrack edition, you receive the exact narration as the traditional audiobook available, with the addition of music throughout.

Any additional comments?

This is a classic Connelly offering that weaves together characters from several story lines, and rewards faithful followers with back story from each. The more familiar you are with Harry Bosch, Rachel Walling, Terry McCaleb ,and even the Poet - the greater the satisfaction with this novel.

What is up with the stupid music and POS sounds?

I couldn't even make it past the 45 minute mark. Who was the book written for? Where did the tough Harry Bosh go? When he talks about his daughter and his ex wife it just stresses me out, because it's so touchy feely and sappy! I get it, I have a daughter and a wife I love very much, but that's not what this book is supposed to be about. I feel like I bought movie tickets to see Training Day, and 15 minutes into the movie they switched the channel to some wholesome Lifetime Sunday afternoon special with weird music and dumb sound effects. WTF, such a let down to do this at book 10 in the series! A spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down... Redrum please! I'm sure the book gets a little better, but I just can't take it.

Story drags

Michael Connelly and Harry Bosch are my favorite team but the story dragged. The narrator is excellent. This won’t deter me from purchasing books I have yet to hear.

By the time

As always I enjoy the Harry Bosch series. It has been awhile since I read more in the series. Overall this was a disappointing experience. There too many formulas from other stories. For more than I can cover here. I will say the ending was exceptionally poor. Harry has the bad in his sites let him go one of my grand children would blown him away. No one would so stupid as to let an escape artist like him have a chance to escape. But stood foolishly by and let him escape. It would been more believable if the bad had sneaked away before Harry has the chance to shoot him. One of the people that needed rescuing could have said he had left in some direction. And Harry and his companion could picked up the chase. The attempt at music is a great idea but the music was awful. I wish I could shut it off. The narrator is a person I really like but for some reason he was terrible this time. His vocals didn’t quite work from character to character. In the end his attempt at child speak was horrific. If Audible/Amazon are going to add some background music, which by the way I love, it should be worth the effort and enhance the story. Also, perhaps, add female voice and a child voice to make it easer to enjoy. Don’t get to far into making it a major production. Just add or enhance the story.

Remake with Distracting background noise

This is Book 10. It is a re-release. The audio background music and noise is to loud. At times very annoying. I don’t mind some sound effects. But this is the whole book. It’s distracting from the story. Thank goodness with Audible I can return.
