Publisher's Summary

Anna is the newest member of an elite ballet company. Her first class with her mysterious idol Victoria almost ruins her career before it starts. When she shows she might be a potential star, Victoria chooses Anna to launch a new season around.

Now Anna must face down jealousy, sabotage, and injury, not to mention navigate the circus of friends and lovers within the company. The pressure builds as she knows she must pour everything she has into opening night and prove to her rivals and herself that Victoria’s faith in her is not misplaced.

In the process, Anna discovers that she and the daring, beautiful Victoria have a lot more than a talent for ballet in common, and that not every thrilling dance can be found on stage.

Wow

When people told me this was the best book of the year I was skeptical. It absolutely is. The build up is amazing, the ending is amazing. I can’t wait until I read it again.

I'm in love!❤

I fell in love with this book and have read it countless times. The budding romance between Anna and Victoria throughout the story is not at all rushed and flowed quite nicely. I enjoyed Anna's growth and increasing boldness throughout the story. I do wish I had learned more about Victoria than was revealed but I have also been hoping for a sequel that may delve into her more. The supporting characters: Jess, Irina, Delphine, Gabriel, Ethan, etc were all just as engaging and made the story hard to put down. I've been waiting for the Audible version to come out and will definitely keep my eyes and ears open for more from Lola Keeley, who is a phenomenal writer.

The narrator was not entirely what I was looking for but she didn't at all take away from the story. I was honestly hoping Stephanie Murphy had been chosen to narrate as she has a nack for making a story really come alive with her voice changes and the passion she pours into the stories she narrates.

Nearly hated Victoria

After reading the reviews, I was looking forward to this book. However, I never understood how Anna could fall for Victoria. Sure, she was Anna’s idol and gorgeous, but Victoria treated people terribly. How could Anna be attracted to someone who purposely and publicly humiliates and bullies someone under them? Being tough to help the dancers become stronger and better is one thing, but belittling them and being cruel is another. I just couldn’t excuse Victoria’s behavior towards others.

Ice queen romance set in the world of ballet

I am glad I found out about this little known ice queen/age gap romance, because I so enjoyed the setting of the world of professional ballet, with all its physical and emotional challenges, rivalries etc. Our young heroine, Charlie, is new to New York's Metropolitan ballet and there catches the eye ( in more ways than one) of Victoria, the intimidating director of the Company, who herself had a stellar dancing career until tragedy cut it short.
The pair are drawn together as they work to turn Charlie into the star she was meant to be. Of course, the young woman finds herself intrigued by the demanding diva whom she is finding more attractive and more frustrating by the day. There are some interesting supporting characters, such as the pill popping Ukranian principal ballerina who hangs on to her career by a painful thread, and a mystery saboteur who threatens to derail both our heroines' careers.
Were it not for the rich setting, I think for me, it would have just been another well written Devil wears Prada look alike. So if ballet ain't your thing, you might not enjoy this one as much as I did.
The narrator did a really good job, although I found her 'Mexican' version of a Ukranian accent really irritating. But accents are a 'thing' in my world, so it might not affect your listening experience.

A heart tied with ribbons

A outstandingly high embodiment of emotional rollercoaster. A leading Ice Queen with a stubborn ballerina. If you can listen to the end with an either a laugh or a tear, you are better than I.
A. Rakocy brings the characters to life in this story. Took me right in and just brushed me out when it finished.

5 stars

This is one of those books that I loved reading and love even more listening to.
Palpable chemistry between the main characters and a glimpse into the world of professional ballet dancers I've known nothing about, but found fascinating. The narration enhances the story further - it's among my favourite audiobooks.p

Oh dear! What a shame...

I SO wanted this to be good as I love ballet and thought I was on to a winner as other reviewers seem to be in love with this book. But sadly I found the story thin and rather immature! Everything was too black and white, problems too easily overcome, characters too simplistic, irritating or both. I found myself having to rewind a lot as the story is so dull and improbable and I would suddenly realise that had missed several minutes due to lack of interest/boredom or just zoning out. Sometimes I was just one click away from requesting my credit back but would then decide to give it the benefit of the doubt and allow just a few more minutes and eventually I got so far through that I resigned myself to wait and see what happened in the end.... unsurprisingly there was no big surprise and I wish I had requested my credit back! Sadly the narration was 'meh' which probably didn't help but I won't be holding my breath for another book from the author, nor seeking out the narrator unless for assistance with sleep issues.

Very good book and well performed. The kind of audiobook that makes you want to run further just to listen longer.
