Acerca de esta escucha

A love story and a journey through music, the exquisite and perfectly pitched new novel from the best-selling author of The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry and The Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessy.

It is 1988. On a dead-end street in a run-down suburb there is a music shop that stands small and brightly lit, jam-packed with records of every kind. Like a beacon, the shop attracts the lonely, the sleepless, and the adrift; Frank, the shop's owner, has a way of connecting his customers with just the piece of music they need. Then, one day, into his shop comes a beautiful young woman, Ilse Brauchmann, who asks Frank to teach her about music. Terrified of real closeness, Frank feels compelled to turn and run, yet he is drawn to this strangely still, mysterious woman with eyes as black as vinyl. But Ilse is not what she seems, and Frank has old wounds that threaten to reopen, as well as a past it seems he will never leave behind. Can a man who is so in tune with other people's needs be so incapable of connecting with the one person who might save him? The journey that these two quirky, wonderful characters make in order to overcome their emotional baggage speaks to the healing power of music - and love - in this poignant, ultimately joyful work of fiction.

touching and warm. And Ensemble of characters. For me Harold Fry was different and better, but had I read this one first I would have chosen this one as my favorite. Two years ago Harold Fry and Queenie Hennessy changed my life. Frank and Ilse reminded me again of what is important through all these changes.

Wonderful and a proper ending

Loved this unusual setting - a record shop. Brought me back to the days in the 80s when this type of shop was a destination. Story moves along nicely, good characters and easy storyline. Narrator did a brilliant job and sounded really enthusiastic about music, hope to hear more by him.

Brought back memories

Quirky and Charming! Easy to relate to the characters, although I have little in common with them. A sign of good writing.

For the Record

Just a pure delight! I loved every minute of it, fell in love with every character, and was sad when it ended.

Magic!

I enjoyed this story so much. As a music lover, I appreciated the way that the power of music was woven into the human condition. The characters were all beautifully flawed and endearing. The narrator deserves an award!

Delightfully charming.......

Listen for the sheer pleasure of musical perspective, of romantic learning, of loving kindness, of human confusion, and for the pleasure of musical interludes (if you crank up your own Victrola - or stream generously!)

Listen for the sheer pleasure...

I was looking for something light and easy to listen to and found it in The Music Shop. Loved the entire cast of characters and kept thinking about who would play Frank and the rest of the quirky group in the movie. Loved it and would love to see it as a movie! Maybe on Hallmark.

Surprisingly good

This collection of misfits and their love burrow into your heart, while the perfect music track plays in the background.

A Vinyl Experience

Great performance, perfect choice of narrator. Loved the story and characters, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book!

Good ,Good, Good

I chose this book because I loved "The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry" by the same author. A bit disappointing in that this book did not meet the likes of Harold Fry but was still worth the read. Characters were interesting but I didn't feel like the author gave me enough to like or dis-like any particular character. The story was good and interesting although it seemed like the Music Shop was doomed from the beginning.

Worth the Listen!
