Publisher's summary

One of Agatha Christie’s most famous novels, featuring her beloved Detective Hercule Poirot - and her most surprising twist.

The story that made Agatha Christie famous ends with one of her most dramatic twists. The villagers of King’s Abbot are shocked when a wealthy local widow commits suicide and the very next day her fiancé, Roger Ackroyd, is stabbed to death. Dr. James Sheppard, the local physician, discovers the body of his friend and narrates the ensuing hunt for the killer. All the guests and staff at Ackroyd's country house seem to have solid alibis - except for his missing stepson. But as the authorities home in on their most obvious suspect, the recently retired detective Hercule Poirot unexpectedly turns up and joins the fray. Dr. Sheppard gamely assists the legendary Poirot as he untangles one of the most fiendish mysteries in Christie’s extensive oeuvre.

Well performed

While it was not terribly hard to know the murderer, the interactions between that person and Poirot were fascinating

Armitage Does Christie Proud

The dulcet silky voice of Richard Armitage, along with his absolute grasp of the character of the narrator, make this is absolute best reading of this book out there. Perfectly delightful to listen to, despite that this is a re-read of the book for me. You’ll want to read this book twice for more reasons than you might think. There was “nothing left undone” in this performance.

Suicide theme warning!

Excellent audiobook and performance. I would have appreciated knowing that suicide is a very strong theme in the narrative; I think I would have forgone the story if I had. As it stands I had a wonderful time for most of the audiobook but did come away with a very bad feeling at the end.

She got me !

This is exactly how to use this particular writing trope!!! I was but blind and it all made sense.

Richard Armitage is my favorite Christie narrator. I hated waiting for this release but it was well worth it.

Unmatched

Richard Armitage is, without doubt, the finest ever chosen to read Poirot aloud. I can’t believe how many of his readings are offered for free. This is a classic mystery, by a classic author, and it deserved to be masterfully performed. Remarkable and unmatched. Well done!
