He almost got away with mass murder.
If the woman on the picnic table hadn’t screamed, he probably would have.

Late one night, a house went up in flames—so hot and so fast that first responders thought they were dealing with a tragic accident. But inside the charred remains, investigators found something far worse: everybody in the home had been murdered before the fire was set, including Katherine Brown.

The man who killed them walked back into his own house smelling of smoke. His wife noticed—but no one imagined what he had done. He hid his obsession behind a calm, ordinary façade.

Katherine only wanted to be friends. He couldn’t accept that. And when fantasy collapsed into rage, he wiped out an entire household.

The case might have gone cold—until days later, when he attacked a prostitute in a public park. Her screams brought neighbors running and police swarming. When officers arrested him, they found a gun in his possession that matched the weapon used in the mass murder.

Even then, the investigation stalled. Evidence pointed toward him, but not enough to take to trial. The breakthrough came only after he bragged to a jailhouse cellmate, revealing details only the killer could know—and the hatred that drove him to slaughter the women who rejected him.

The Murder of Katherine Brown is a fast, gripping true crime story of obsession, entitlement, and the violent fantasy world of a man who believed he was owed what he could never have. Rod Kackley exposes the chilling path from fixation to murder—and the relentless pursuit of justice that finally brought him down.

A Shocking True Crime Story of mass murder, survival, and the moment a killer’s secret life collapsed in public.

It is a good book but I had trouble paying attention to it.
I could not get into it.

The victims stood out the most

Worth the hour. The virtual voice didn't bother me. It did not add or take away.

Quick and to the point retelling.

Used too many adjectives and too many adverbs which was distracting. Words and phrases were repeated often. It felt like the author tried too hard to use words that aren’t used in common discourse.
And, of course, the narration was awful. They need to work on that AI “stuff” before unleashing it on the listener. There were other issues, but what I’ve described is enough.
If this hadn’t been slightly over an hour, I would’ve turned it off at 15 minutes in.

Too many, too much

I had to struggle to finish this book no character work up no great details

not very interesting

Poorly written with constant dramatic inflammatory language, even when it makes no sense with the story. The virtual voice on this one is also particularly bad.
