Publisher's Summary

In The Most Beautiful, a title inspired by the hit song Prince wrote about their legendary love story, Mayte Garcia for the first time shares the deeply personal story of their relationship and offers a singular perspective on the music icon and their world together: from their unconventional meeting backstage at a concert (and the long-distance romance that followed) to their fairy-tale wedding (and their groundbreaking artistic partnership) to the devastating losses that ultimately dissolved their romantic relationship for good. Throughout it all they shared a bond more intimate than any other in Prince's life. No one else can tell this story or can provide a deeper, more nuanced portrait of Prince - both the famously private man and the pioneering, beloved artist - than Mayte, his partner during some of the most pivotal personal and professional years of his career. The Most Beautiful is a book that will be returned to for decades, as Prince's music lives on with generations to come.

Written and read by Mayte Garcia.

Highly recommended

Thanks to Mayte for sharing her story in such a loving and respectful way. I've been incredibly moved and inspired by Prince's music for 35 years. This book has a beautiful balance between honesty and tender remembering of someone who knew the man behind the symbol, so to speak. I went into listening to this with as open mind as possible for someone who loves Prince's music as much, and I'm personally very glad I listened and recommend it highly

Worth the buy.

I kept finding reasons to put my headphones back on and listen to the story. I have always been a Prince fan and Mayte Garcia has given a brief insight of their life in a respectful tone. It can't be easy for a 16 year old to absorb an icon like Prince and their story is of love, loss and life beyond. Well worth a listen.

Beautifully narrated

Beautifully narrated by Mayte Garcia herself. A lot of criticism appeared from many Prince fan's before this book came out. I feel Mayte had every right to tell her story and for me this has been welcome, as a Prince fan myself I feel this book was honest and sincere and maybe just maybe writing this was a form of counselling for her.

A fantastic book for all Prince fans

I’ve loved Prince all my since I was 17 (I’m now 49) was lucky enough to see him 57 times in concert and after shows, many of which Mayte performed in. I found this book truly amazing. So amazing to read about his everyday life with Mayte. Even though I still love him, I’m a sad because of the way he treated Mayte, I know love can change, but I really think with the wealth he had he should have made sure she was financially stable when they split. Any decent man should look after his woman (especially after the double heartbreak she went through) it’s not like he couldn’t afford it. I still love Prince but I won’t lie, some of his antics have shocked me. I’ve heard all about Larry Graham’s bad influences before this book, but this book confirms to me he was not good for our man. Anyway, if your a Prince fan and can take a bit of mild criticism of our hero I think you’ll really enjoy this very honest account from Mayte. I think she is very respectful to her ex husband, even though some of his treatment of her was very cruel. Well done Mayte, this is a great book and you read it beautifully, even when some of it must have brought back terrible memories 4 U x

A story of dignity, forgiveness and gratitude

Mayte is generous in sharing her story which is beautifully written. It provides a real insight into the mystical and magical rollercoaster world that could only be experienced with someone like Prince. I'm sorry for their loss of Amir. Devastating beyond words. The strength, courage and grace Mayte possesses is inspirational.

fabulous! enlightening! heart breaking!

I have read and reread this book and also listened on audible which is a must! I have such respect and admiration for Mayte, what her and Prince went through, so much devastation & heartbreak . It is difficult to listen to at times but it gives you a peek of the lives they lived, the highs and the lows, touring, marriage and of course divorce. My only criticism is it wasn't long enough!

A wonderful, heartfelt work that honours the memory of Prince

I've been an enthusiastic fan of Prince's work since the mid-80's. with this book, Mayte has put together a truely inspiring story, taking us on the roller coaster ride that was her decade+ long relationship with Prince.
It brought back so many wonderful memories of the Prince concerts & after parties I've attended, including the first time he toured Sydney (with a young Mayte) in the Diamonds and Pearls tour.

I just want to thank Mayte for sharing her heart with us. The world is still grieving the loss of this musical genius and this book helps to salv the wounds left when he left us.

Listening to the audio version, read by Mayte made it alll the more touching.

Thank you Mayte, may God bless you and your most beautiful family.

Exceptional Book!!

Mayte gave an exceptional performance of this wonderful story. It really did feel like it was from the heart, and you felt all her emotions, especially during the unfortunate parts of her life, but even the uplifting moment she finally had the child she so badly wanted. I cried a number of times. Thank you for a wonderful book Mayte.

More a story about Mayte than it is about Prince

Pros:
* Well narrated
* What the author wrote about Prince seemed respectful and kind

Cons:
* The majority of the book was about Mayte's life - her childhood, her career, her experiences, pre-Prince.
* It's pretty clear the author is either naive, or ignorant. Her initial interactions with Prince were not charming - they were creepy, because she was a minor.
* I suspect she will be writing a tell-all memoir at some point, given the number of times she let the listeners know she couldn't go into more detail about something.

Respectful, interesting and engaging

This is the only audio book that's had me in tears, both of joy and sadness. I'm really happy that Mayte shared her unique story of her life with Prince with us. Now that he's gone, I think it's important that those that loved him and knew him best, tell us their amazing behind the scenes stories. If you are a Prince fan, do yourself a favour and get this book.

A rare insight

I enjoyed Mate's very honest and heartfelt rendering of her life with Prince. It is touched equally with the brilliance of two souls melding and creating, to the very saddest of heartbreaks. Mayte is a rare and beautiful wordsmith, and this sotry is well worth a listen.

Absolutely beautiful

Showing a side of her life with one of the worlds greatest artists that they public never knew until now Mayte pours her heart and soul into her words especially when she talks of their son and her daughter. It's beautiful to see her love for Prince never died. People will come to their own conclusion about why things ended but at the end of the day it's simply a beautiful story about life, love and loss.

The most beautiful story by the most beautiful girl in the world

What an overwhelmingly beautiful story! As well as being the most beautiful girl in the world, she is definitely one of the strongest! She is truly amazing.

The story is a beautiful, exciting, tragic and blissful timeline of her life as a dancer, her life and love she shared with prince and the tragic heartbreak and loss she experienced.

This story will make you laugh, cry, angry, excited, joyful and will definitely keep you intrigued throughout, which is what makes it so beautiful. Thank you for sharing it with the world Mayte.

Enduring Love

We spoken, intimate but respectful. Provides beautiful insight to love, romance and layers of heartbreak. I seen Prince a few times, including once at the beginning of his career, and then at his last concert in Australia. He saved the best for last. A couple of months later he died.

Mayte's book shed new light on the legend's life and her love for her husband. I thank you for sharing.
