Publisher's summary

Forbidden love never tasted so spicy. Lucas and Briar’s epic romance in one collection containing the complete duet.

Our story begins the same as any ill-fated romance. Two households, two families, two species that should never be together.

These are the recipe for tragic, beautiful love, fated to end in flames.

She is my doom. She is my destiny. Unavoidable, impossible to deny, and painful to ignore.

They call me Bastard Prince, a half-breed unworthy of a true title. But I still have to follow the rules. Serve the Blackthorne vampire bloodline.

A shifter and a vampire are forbidden to be together. The law declares it so. But Briar is mine, and I’ll fight family and constitution to the death in order to keep her.

Great storyline

The first book fell flat because Stella’s narration of Briar; so dead and lifeless. I’m shocked because Stella is one of my favorite narrators, but not for this book. The storyline was interesting. Stella’s narration greatly improved with second book. It was good to listen to story with focus on Lucas. There was even occasional humor. Enjoyed it.

A GOOD DOOMED LOVERS PARANORMAL ROMANCE

Lucas is a halfbreed vampire caught in his Father’s dark web of evil and hate to prove himself worthy of the Blackthorne name. It was meant to be a simple yet devious plan to rid the Blackthorne’s of the wolf shifters on their borders.. but along the way, Lucas falls in love with Briar - the pack’s naive Princess. They have a secret forbidden romance however, it’s also a doomed one.. especially when Lucas’ tightly kept secrets start to come out which will have devastating consequences that will split their precious mate bond. And the repercussions will go on and on.. especially with enemies hiding in plain sight.

Worth a credit? Yes, it’s a really good paranormal romance with excellent world-building and magic and mayhem that ebbs and flows dramatically along with the drama, intrigue, suspense, tragedy, despair, emotional turmoil and romance. The Duet style narration by Shane and Stellar (and sometimes Aaron) was the perfect fit to bring the many feels and the mythical characters to life.

A fantastic read and listen

4 STARS

I read this duet as a combination of audiobook/eBook read & listen. It worked out to be about 50% audiobook, 50% reading.

Book One: Midnight Prince
Book one of the duet is written in first person from an alternating dual POV and ends in a cliffhanger. I did not love Lucas at the beginning of the book. Then the reader is taken back in time to see how his heart was broken. Lucas and Briar are destined but forbidden. Romeo and Juliet vibes abound as they find their way through first love, first passion, and first heartbreak. They cannot trust anyone and it seems like everyone is out for their own gain. I loved their passion and dreaded their inevitable pain of separation. I couldn't wait to move on to book two.

Book Two: Midnight Hunger
Book two is also written in first person from a dual POV and ends in a HEA. There is also a chapter from Callie's POV which I adored.
When Lucas finds Briar, he is not welcome into her life right away. They fight, banter, and torment each other. I loved how witty this part of the book was. The tension was tight and their chemistry and anger was off the charts. I love how Lucas will do anything to secure and protect his mate. It takes Briar a little while to come around, but once she does, their bond is strong and enjoyable to read. They battle their destiny to get their happy ending and I loved the plot twists that surprised me. Having not read the other books that are related to this one, I was a little lost when it came to Lucas' history with Cashell and Olivia. This was slightly frustrating, but minor overall.

The audiobook for this duet was amazing! Shane East as Lucas was perfection! Stella Hunter did a fantastic job capturing Briar and the growth of her character. Aaron Shedlock was amazing in his cameos as Cashell. Together, the cast brought this story to life in the most fantastic way with duet narration. This was a very enjoyable read & listen and I look forward to spending more time with the Blackthornes in the future.

so happy this was done in duet

loved we got this in duet.. the first 3 Blackthorne books were a roller-coaster for Cashel and Olivia, But I felt so horrible for Lucas and what happened. Any who NO spoilers for those, enjoy on your own.. but for those who do know this is Lucas's story past-present and we needed it!
Plot 4/5 Spice 2/5 Cast Performance 9/10
overall book score 8/10

Lucas and Briar Duet

Midnight Prince

Performance: Shane really shows a range of accents in this one and I am here for it. So sexy. Stella does and excellent job with Briar. The character development can be heard in her voice which is amazing

Story: This is the first half of Briar and Lucas’s story and ends in a cliffhanger. Most of the story is a 100 year flashback to when Briar’s pack first moved next to Blackthorn manor. It is a forbidden love story, kind of a paranormal Romeo and Juliet. It really give insight into why Lucas is the way he is in the first three books. It also makes what he did for Olivia that much more heartbreaking. I am diving right into the next book. I really hope Lucas gets his HEA!

Midnight Hunger

Performance: Both Stella and Shane really flex their narration muscles. They manage to make all the characters sound different. The only voice they didn’t do was Cashel because of course Aaron was back for that.

Story: This is the conclusion of Briar and Lucas’s story. I have fallen in absolute love with Lucas over the course of this duet. He has really been through the emotional ringer but is able to lean into his humanity and give Briar what she needs to heal. I did not see the end coming at all. What a wild ride!
