"Marriage is God's answer for our deepest human need: Companionship." - Dr. Gary Chapman

And that, according to counselor and relationship expert Dr. Gary Chapman, author of the New York Times best seller The Five Love Languages, is to have deep and lasting union with another, to truly become one. But how can you build that oneness from the beginning? With the expert wisdom and practical common sense that have made him a popular speaker worldwide, Dr. Chapman helps couples with such questions as:

  • "Why won't my spouse change?"
  • "What does it really mean to love someone else?"
  • "How do I get him to listen to me?"
  • "What if I'm the only one working at the marriage?"

Whether you're starting your life together, or just need to improve communication in your marriage, Dr. Chapman's wisdom will help you move toward "the marriage you've always wanted".

A Must for Marriage Before, During, or After

Dr. Gary Chapman's approach and voice on marriage, his examination of the core values toward marriage, and the easy-going spirit of his counsel and advice on whole really make it simple for both men and women to grasp and take hold of key ideas that are crucial to making marriage, the most important relationship you might ever have in life, happy, successful, and mutually rewarding. Although this is largely based on Christian views and references much of the Bible's teachings on the subject, it is very practicle and the principles can be understood by all.

I've now passed this book on to my wife & both sets of parents and include his "Five Love Languages" book along with it... both books should be manditory reading for couples in all stages even if not married. If you've ever had troubles, concerns, doubts, questions, or just curiosity on this subject GET THIS BOOK! Life is way too short to not pickup this diamond of knowledge and key learning.

    A Primer for godly marriage

What did you love best about The Marriage You've Always Wanted?

It really brought together the biblical concept of marriage in a user-friendly format. A must-read before the walk to the altar!

What did you like best about this story?

Dr. Chapman defines unity, accountability and equality within the context of marriage. He supports these concepts with scriptural references and delivers the message with remarkable clarity. If you aren't 'convicted' at some point during this book, then you aren't really married!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The personal anecdotes were amusing and helpful (I especially liked the one about the "drawer-opener").

    Any additional comments?

It's impossible to do the homework assignments while sailing along @ 70 mph, so you'll probably end up buying the book like I did.

Good Read. Hit some good bullet points.

Got a little too detailed at parts, but the examples given and how to handle the situations was great.

    good book with simple advice

the material in this book I really appreciated. easy to understand and a simple read. But the ideas will help marriages all over. This would be an especially good book for those beginning marriage, maybe premarital counseling. A lot of the material that Gary Chapman covers in his books would be good for engaged couples to read and understand.

Even of one person is trying. With God it will change you for the better.

    Oh God

The publishers summary says it all. If you want a book that tells you how to become a better Christian and save your marriage, this may be for you. But if you want to hear psychology and advice, forget it.
