Publisher's summary

Jewel Mantelle has never lived in the South, much less on the coast, so moving from Chicagoland to the historic North Florida coastal town of Sophia Island seems like just the adventure to fix her marriage. However, when she arrives, she finds that it’s awfully hot and humid there and that these Southern folks really like to hug.

Her husband’s past on the island includes a creaky old house in the historic district and lots of nosy relatives he’d forgotten to mention. When one of the Mantelle cousins turns up dead, Jewel needs something she’s never really had before — friends. As her lunch bunch puts on their detective caps to get to the bottom of this murder, Jewel discovers that she may get more than she bargained for out of Sophia Island.

The Manatee Did It is a clean and cozy beach mystery set in a historic small town. It’ll keep you listening well after bedtime and slathering on more sunscreen to get a few more poolside listens in.

mindblowing

I enjoyed the coffee clatch gang ,. gossip, and sleuthing! The characters are engaging and interesting. Craig was a little too closed mouthed and blaise. He made things look worse! smh. He wasn't very present in his marriage either. He needed a wake up call and therapy. His clandestine machinations infuriated me. How clueless he was. His wife had to save his bscon. Shame on him. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator was good.

Dang, this was good!

Kay Dew Shostak is one of the best authors I have had the pleasure of reading in a very long time, and this new (to me) series is starting right at the top of my 'HAVE TO READ'S. Jewel, trying to save her marriage, moves thinking that a new location would help. But, did it help or hurt? You'll have to read it to find out. In the midst of trying to get settled in, Jewel is bombarded with some of the local ladies who believe they are sleuths and get excited when a mystery needs to be solved. Unfortunately, Jewel's husband finds himself in the middle of a murder mystery. Can the ladies solve the mystery? Again...you'll have to read the story to find out.
Believe me, you won't be disappointed!
I listened to the audiobook version of this book and, once again, Suzanne Barbetta does this story justice. Her ability to move from character to character is flawless. Her ability to bring the story to life using her voice is impressive and I love how she brings the emotions of each character to life.
I cannot wait for book 2!!
