This humorous story was "a flight of fancy" for H. G. Wells. A man is given the power to perform miracles but with very unexpected results.

Editorial reviews

Ivor Hugh delivers a jolly rendition of the H. G. Wells comic short story “The Man Who Could Work Miracles”. During an argument in a pub, protagonist George McWhirter Fotheringay discovers that he has the ability to perform miracles. He then runs headlong into a series of madcap adventures. At first, he applies his newfound powers to petty personal concerns and accidentally sends a man to Hades. When a priest intervenes, Fotheringay decides to use his gift for the greater public good. But can he handle the responsibility of such an awesome power?

Critic reviews

"Combining the scientist's analytical view, the historian's sense of destiny, the novelist's vivid feel for everyday life, and the artist's limitless imagination, H.G. Wells crafted impressive fantasies - and the most exciting works of 20th-century science fiction." (H. G. Wells: A Sketch of His Life and Works)
