Publisher's summary

L. E. Modesitt, Jr., continues his best-selling Saga of Recluce with The Mage-Fire War, the third book in a story arc which began with The Mogrel Mage and Outcasts of Order.

Once again, prejudices against the use of chaos magic force Beltur and his companions to flee their refuge in Axalt. The rulers of nearby Montgren have offered them sanctuary and the opportunity to become the Councilors of the run-down and disintegrating town of Haven.

Montegren lacks any mages - white or black - making this seem like the perfect opportunity to start again.

However, Beltur and the others must reinstitute law and order, rebuild parts of the town, deal with brigands - and thwart an invading army.

Excellent!

More with has done it again. He has filled in another piece of the history of Candar, given us a good story, and once again, good triumphs in the end.

L.E. Modesitte Jr -- The Mage

A book with good long length, good pace, and enough of a story line to fill the book.
Fits well in the Recluse series.
At the end (credits) there seems to be a hint that this series may not have many more books. I hope this is not true.
If he has run out of new Recluse characters, may I suggest a another book for the cooper Mage in the cove & his futher service to the ruler.

a good book, but not up to earlier standards

the hero goes through more ale than most serious alcoholics without getiing drunk, and the ale being some kind of super extreme energydrink. and with so extreme a degree of self-recrimination, that its barely tolerable.

Another great work

Only downside is the narration, 1, being from the UK I would prefer more UK narrator's
2, Kirbys voice can be nasaly and become boring, almost making me sleepy.
