The Lovely Bones is such an audiobook - a number one best seller celebrated at once for its artistry, for its luminous clarity of emotion, and for its astonishing power to lay claim to the hearts of millions of fans around the world.

"My name was Salmon, like the fish; first name, Susie. I was fourteen when I was murdered on December 6, 1973."

So begins the story of Susie Salmon, who is adjusting to her new home in heaven, a place that is not at all what she expected, even as she is watching life on Earth continue without her - her friends trading rumors about her disappearance, her killer trying to cover his tracks, her grief-stricken family unraveling. Out of unspeakable tragedy and loss, The Lovely Bones succeeds, miraculously, in building a tale filled with hope, humor, suspense, even joy.

*Booktrack is an immersive format that pairs traditional audiobook narration to complementary music. The tempo and rhythm of the score are in perfect harmony with the action and characters throughout the audiobook. Gently playing in the background, the music never overpowers or distracts from the narration, so listeners can enjoy every minute. When you purchase this Booktrack edition, you receive the exact narration as the traditional audiobook available, with the addition of music throughout.

If you need a good cry, read this book

I bought the audio book because I thought the movie was beautiful. I had no idea that the writing itself would be more poetic than the visuals in the movie. The author does an amazing job structuring her story. It's not about the death of a young girl, but the journey she and her family goes through afterwords.

I would have to say I disagree with the complaints about the narrator. I thought it was brilliant to have her read her story. She brings a sort or seriousness to the reading while keeping the poetic feel of the imagery. Given what she had gone through, it feels appropriate that she should be the one to read this book.

The story of the girl is such a small part of this novel. It really makes you think about life and letting go. My heartstrings were pulled way too much throughout the book.

My only complaint is there seemed to be quite a few auditory issues and skipping in the recording. Maybe this happened when uploading to Audible?
