If you need a good cry, read this book

I bought the audio book because I thought the movie was beautiful. I had no idea that the writing itself would be more poetic than the visuals in the movie. The author does an amazing job structuring her story. It's not about the death of a young girl, but the journey she and her family goes through afterwords.

I would have to say I disagree with the complaints about the narrator. I thought it was brilliant to have her read her story. She brings a sort or seriousness to the reading while keeping the poetic feel of the imagery. Given what she had gone through, it feels appropriate that she should be the one to read this book.

The story of the girl is such a small part of this novel. It really makes you think about life and letting go. My heartstrings were pulled way too much throughout the book.

My only complaint is there seemed to be quite a few auditory issues and skipping in the recording. Maybe this happened when uploading to Audible?

it was wonderful except

I wish I would've grabbed a version that didnt have the author reading this. she seemed so disinterested and bored, as if a student that was called up to read from a lesson book. she made t very hard to enjoy what could be a magical story. I might grab another version if there is one, to try and relisten with more optimism on the story being more enjoyable.

Great story, but narration left much to be desired

I enjoyed the story, but I wish I had opted not to listen to it. I feel like I missed some of the book because the narration is so dry and monotone. I found myself drifting A LOT and was bored with listening to the book. I understand why the author narrated the book, but I think she did a great disservice to her story.

audio issues

Fair warning, the audio skips near the end, at around two hours left. I think it's been mentioned in other reviews.

Outstanding

I couldn't hold back my tears. This was one the best audio books I've ever listened to, and I LOVE the audio book edition. I read this book years ago and watched the movie, but I realized that I had forgotten the details of the story, and I'm so glad I had, because this was excellent. I recommend it 100%

bad audio editing-great story

very good story. but whoever edited the audio did not do a great job. sometimes it skipped like a scratched CD. I backed up to make sure it wasn't an issue with my phone or headphones, but it was definitely the audio skipping.

This book hit me hard emotionally

This really makes you think. I loved it. It’s super emotional. The narrator is the author and it’s kind of monotone but after listening to her intro, it made me connect to the story more. I love the music in the background. It does skip in numerous places. Great story

Just the most beautiful story ever

I know I have listened to a wonderful book when I try to listen nonstop, when I tell my husband about what is going on in the book, and when I think about the characters when I'm not listening to it or talking about it.

I loved it from start to finish. I'm a psychic medium myself, and found that it rang true to my experience with spirits.

Beautifully written

Such a good but sad book! Definitely listen to it before watching the movie. The book is way better!

The specialty back music is phenomenal

While the story is already fantastic and a beautiful insight into what so many of us wonder about, the background music made for The Lovely Bones made this audible experience extra special! highly encourage you to take a listen
