They had other goals as well, some of them secret: converting the indigenous natives along the way to the true faith, discovering a semi-mythical paradise known as Teguayo, hunting for sources of gold and silver, and paving the way for Spanish settlements from Santa Fe to Monterey. In strict terms, the expedition failed.

Good Read
He takes you along on his hikes to see the ruins and his thinking about them. In addition to the information given you get an idea of how archeologist interact with each other.

What an adventure! David Roberts only increases my desire to try and understand. As long as the ancients are in our minds, they will never be ‘The Lost Ones.’
