Wandering alone with burros and pack horses through California and the Southwest for five years in the early 1930s, on voyages lasting as long as ten months, Ruess became friends with photographers Edward Weston and Dorothea Lange, swapped prints with Ansel Adams, took part in a Hopi ceremony, learned to speak Navajo, and was among the first "outsiders" to venture deeply into what was then (and to some extent still is) largely a little-known wilderness. Incredible book & narrator

The story is captivating especially if you have any sort of wanderlust or fascination with our fellow primal humans. I can’t believe a story from 1934 feels so alive today. I am captivated and must get to the southwest to start my own exploration. There is something about the land that has always been so special, I cant wait to get back and see it with new eyes.

A mystery with great details

I heard about Everett Ruess from reading Into The Wild. I do not have a diary but hearing the desparate inner lives of others is fascinating and the author's dedication to the story is much appreciated.

Great Narration / So-so Story

I found it hard to empathize with Everett given the snot-nosed, entitled tone he took in his letters to his parents and brother. Some of his writings were remarkable, given his age, but had he not gone missing, he may have just lived an unremarkable life.

All in all, every aspect of the book was excellent. Narrator voice A++ Ruess's legacy was written exceptionally well I enjoyed this immensely.
