A librarian’s apprentice uncovers forbidden magic in a secret martial academy.

Aeons once ruled the world. Now, their empire lies in ruin, and the survivors hide on the fringes of society.

Nahlia is a librarian's apprentice who's obsessed with Aeon lore, scavenging for hints of their legendary power.

But others are searching too, including the Templars who seek to hunt down the Aeon survivors. When the Templars attack her family, Nahlia is forced to infiltrate a secret academy and rise beyond everything she's ever known.

The Lost Redeemer is the first book in the Aeonica series, which began as a webnovel with over two million reads between Wattpad and Royal Road. It's a progression fantasy that takes place in a world with advancing technology, including firearms, trains, and airships. Follow Nahlia Cole, along with several other characters as they discover the lost art of Ethermancy and advance their abilities.

Love the narrator, and the book was free, so I listened. Overall, it's a slow build. The story, for me, didn't really get moving until much later in the book. The protagonist doesn't develop her power until late in the book, and what magic there is feels very underwhelming in its power level. It's not a bad book. There is no SA, no character death designed to spur on the protagonist. It just wasn't for me.

Lord of the rings speed

This is essentially a Cosmere novel. … Which in this case is not a bad thing. I have almost the entirety of Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere collection here on Audible so I’m not complaining. And as with those, the narrator here is great too.

Cosmere?

Love the twist! The world building in this book is good and different characters. Can’t wait to start the next book.

Good character development and world building. It follow the usual formula for discovering your power and saving the world. Predictable but fun.

Worth the time

the world has an interesting setting but I feel like there could be more depth to the cultures, and to the characters. The shell of the characters is really good but it feels like your only getting a skin deep look at them. Suzy Jackson is an amazing narrator, one of my favorites as she can be both serious and light, does well with accents and male voices and shows emotion very well without it coming off over the top or distracting

decent pacing, and interesting world

Five hours in, and I'm bored.

It's not that it's *bad*. The narrator does a great job and so deserves the full 5 stars. But the plot and characters? Yawn.

The main character - at least so far as I've listened - demonstrates little agency in her decisions and just lets things... happen. She's not compelling.

The most intriguing part of the story has been short snippets from MC's mother's diary - but even then, that's not enough to keep me listening.

I couldn't finish.
