Mary McLeod Bethune was a phenomenal Black woman who rose from poverty, established a school, became a strong leader for voting and women's rights, and was an advisor to four presidents. Based on over 35 interviews with those who knew Mary personally, this biography gives insight to this wonderful leader who will be the first Black woman to have her statue placed in the National Statuary Hall in Washington, DC. Mary comes alive through the narrative and personal stories.

Amazing story

The story was rich and inspiring. The only problem I had was with the performance. The overall thetricality was over the top. At times this made it hard to listen. I stopped listening to the book for a while before I decided that the book had a great story to tell and that I would have to grit my teeth whenever I heard the "elementary school teacher" tone just as students would have to get on the carpet for story time.

She was a woman truly led by God and ahead of her time. Glory to God!

I liked the reflection of her life at the end of the book. It was personal and tangible - excellent added touch!
