Maya and Rebecca Ward are both accomplished physicians, but that's where the sisters' similarities end. As teenagers, they witnessed their parents' murder, but it was Rebecca who saved Maya from becoming another of the gunman's victims. The tragedy left Maya cautious and timid, settling for a sedate medical practice with her husband, Adam, while Rebecca became the risk taker.

After a devastating hurricane hits the coast of North Carolina, Rebecca and Adam urge Maya to join them in the relief effort. To please her husband, Maya finally agrees. She loses herself in the care and transport of victims, but when her helicopter crashes into raging floodwaters, there appears to be no survivors.

Forced to accept that Maya is gone, Rebecca and Adam turn to one another - first for comfort, then in passion - unaware that, miles from civilization, Maya is injured and trapped with strangers she's not certain she can trust.

Don't be put off by other reviews or one that "reveals" the ending. There are twists & turns in the book that you have to be patient enough to get to.
I live in a state impacted by hurricanes & put off listening to this book for awhile, especially since hurricane Matthew just went through. I'm running out of Diane Chamberlain books to listen to so I gave in. I wasn't disappointed!!
Things happen in life, things change after disasters, sometimes it's best to go with the flow.

This is another amazing novel by Diane Chamberlain. For the life of me, I can’t figure out how she comes up with stories with such twists & turns. I’ve read six of her books so far, and plan on reading her entire collection.

Oh the lies

I was wondering how the premise related to the story. The build up is a little slow, but I grew to love Maya's story. I felt like the ending was a bit rushed and I probably would have liked the story better had it focused more on Maya instead of Rebecca.

Pretty good

I really enjoyed this one!! I blew through this pretty quick (the sign of a great book). Likable main characters and a few twists in the storyline I didn’t see coming. The narrator was great too!
