“Readers will be on the edge of their seats…. A brilliant tale of resistance, courage and ultimately hope.”
Kelly Rimmer, New York Times bestselling author of The Warsaw Orphan

From the New York Times bestselling author of The Last Bookshop in London comes a moving new novel inspired by the true history of America’s library spies of World War II.

Ava thought her job as a librarian at the Library of Congress would mean a quiet, routine existence. But an unexpected offer from the US military has brought her to Lisbon with a new mission: posing as a librarian while working undercover as a spy gathering intelligence.

Meanwhile, in occupied France, Elaine has begun an apprenticeship at a printing press run by members of the Resistance. It’s a job usually reserved for men, but in the war, those rules have been forgotten. Yet she knows that the Nazis are searching for the press and its printer in order to silence them.

As the battle in Europe rages, Ava and Elaine find themselves connecting through coded messages and discovering hope in the face of war.

I loved it, the story was strong and real. I felt like I was part of the resistance and part of making a difference in the fight for the Jews and the French people. At every turn of a chapter you were drawn in. The Narrators performance was impeccable.

I’ve read many more than my fair share of books, accounts, and novels on the professional, personal, and sometimes incomprehensible stories of WW2. I found this to be an intriguing, engaging, and well-researched novel. Thank you.

I like the human story and the performance of the reader. Europe had problems like will have if we elect a dictator.

History the troubles caused by war and a human suffering in the strength of many people.

This is one of the most well written and honest depiction about what it took to overthrow evil and help the political and the military. The bravery of those who resisted and used truth as well as kindness to help the Jewish people is encouraging and humbling.

The research is fantastic!
