Publisher's summary

Damon Runyon's classic stories of New York City gangsters come to life in this radio series. Broadway, our guide through Runyon's world, introduces us to characters who are often as soft-hearted as they are shady. For gamblers, burlesque queens, murderers, and innocents, comedy and tragedy were found in equal measure on the streets of Damon Runyon's Manhattan.

Dated

I like Runyon's use of language, but I thought this particular story was both predictable and depressing, with the kind of one-dimensional characters that seem obsolete by modern standards. It would be "nice" if Audible would provide some other Runyon stories instead.

OTR to the max

A poignant story of tragedy and integrity mixed in with a bit of larceny. Damon Runyon at his best

Absolutely Lemons On A Drop

This is an oddity I downloaded by mistake, I have no idea who these characters are but after listening, must belong to US 1940's era. The Lemon Drop Kid is a naughty little character pulling a fast one cheekily on anyone he can, which seems to be everybody. Nostalgia comes to
mind. This is a short story with a gangster & a doll (not broad) this is a young girl with a wispy school girl voice only Hollywood can create & a cheeky Lemon Drop Kid who yes, sucks lemon drops.

Not too sure why this is in existence, or why anyone would want to make this production, but they did. Breathy Elisha & Lemon Drop Kid are a farce who just seem to be there & other than saying that, serve no point.
This is no earth shattering literature, but a simple American story.
Listen to the end & then you can say you have listened to it. There is a moral to this play, but nothing else.

Is That All There Is?

Please please more Damon Runyan!! Where's 'On Broadway'? The funniest stories ever. This dramatisation is a mere aperitif, we need a full crate of Runyan in Audible's library!
